According to article Shyness in the Classroom, shyness is the act of feeling uncomfortable in social situations in ways that interfere with our ability to do what we really want, to perform our activities on the high level or, that cause us to avoid social situations altogether.
When students are working as a group, it can lead to a lot of positive effects in studying. This sort of collaborative learning teaches students to think more widely and deeply. But for a lot of students it is very hard to work in group (Collaborative Learning: Encouraging Shy Students to Participate in Group Activities)
The ability to communicate online through various learning systems like Blackboard or Moodle, or through social websites like Twitter or Facebook, means that there is a protective shield for the students who don’t appreciate direct interpersonal interactions (Does Online Education and Social Media Help Shy Students?)
When Chase Lee decided to study marketing, business, and management, and went in one of the business schools, he was simply surprised by how self-confident his mates were and how great they performed their studying. (Can shy students survive business school?)
Drama workshops are helping children who are selectively mute to overcome their shyness (Tackling shyness takes centre stage)
Social unrest or problems with people can also be developed in something more serious, for instance, rejection from peers and mates, absence of understanding, etc. (Working with Shy or Withdrawn Students)
It is commonly known, according to this article, that teachers' attitude toward shy children probably is habitual rather than individual to the certain child (Quiet Children in the Classroom: On Helping, Not Hurting)
