Successful Intercultural Communication In Global Teams
Communication refers to the mode used for exchange of information, in between two intermediaries. At present days, the core of communication process arouse from a though and progress with encoding and decoding of message between sender and receiver. Technology has greatly aided to support the efficacy of communication process with the provision of internet, television, fax and other such technologies. However, even with such rich communication technologies there are certain barriers of communication that makes it difficult to determine the essence of communication, positively. These barriers of communication in the contemporary era of globalisation are physical and psychological, as well. These could easily be monitored at individual and organisational level. The core barriers of communication at individual level pertain to the variance of the perception, values and ethics of a particular place / organisation. Together these elements determine the waves of messages that is being exchanged, evaluated, interpreted and understood in between the senders and receivers. However, at organisation level, the barriers are more complexed exaggerated because of the intercultural diversification and variance of contextual ethics and values. Thus, such disagreements have the potential to stir conflicts and politics at work place, if not administered rationally. These could be regarded as the significant factors of communication at global level. An over view of the factor of communication from the organisational aspect depicts that multicultural teams engaged in an organisation out of the effect of globalisation, have the potential to face intense conflict of culture and values variable that can obstruct the organisational performance. In such a lieu, the leadership communication is the element that allows the management to hold power and control at organisational level. Hence, these are the factor that allows to manage organisational conflicts and politics to be rested with the use of refined organisational communication tactics and technologies. The theoretical and practical perspective of the element could be evaluated with the support of literary readings that illustrate the intercultural interactions determining the communication in global and multicultural context, as the core of problematic situation. The reasons supported as ground of the illustrated argument includes linguistic barriers, cultural conflicts and disagreements amongst concepts at multicultural interaction in a global team. In particular, at organisational level, the factors of communication become more perplexed on account of intercultural variance of impressions and the competence of communication skills amongst the receiver and senders. Even though, the values of organisation mostly supports the core factors of effective communication, yet the regular work related interaction have strong potential of creating friction amongst the workforce on grounds of cultural variance , socialisation preference and other identity concepts. The element of communication has eventually been transformed into a factor of strategic competence at organisational level that enables the management to instil efficacy in organisational culture and positivity in the social interaction in the organisational culture and environment.
The intercultural communication in global team is a complex horizon as it allows the habitats of different communities in the multi-cultural set up to communicate responsively. In this lieu, it can be observed that communication strategies are the core strength of an efficient organisational culture serving global team. These strategies enable the management to develop communication standards and build team over the platform of the organisational values and culture. It is only the efficient and effective communication trait that allows the organisation to cater the work force over the same platform and direct the efforts with a focused approach. It is the strategical management of the combination of formal and informal components of communication that determine the trust and credibility of an organisation through the channel of the leader in an organisation. Communication in the context of the management of a global team is crucial in the sense that it does not only process information but aims to deliver the message to the multicultural global team with strong influence. Hence, the motive is to emphasize over the development of perception rather than the processing of information only. The leader in an organisation in an international model beholding global teams demands powerful trait and focused strategy to cultivate the desired outcome through communication. The communication uttered from leader should be purpose directed, so as to secularly address objective, directing workforce over the same pitch, irrespectively of the cultural diversity and perceptions. In this reference, it can be argued that the single element of communication skill of leader grants power to the organisation, as it allocate power to the organisation by motivating the employees and dissemination of the values and vision of organisation in the true essence. Thus, it can also be added that it is not only the verbal communication but the behavioural messages of the leader as well that grants clarity and transparency of messages. Together the elements gain trust and credibility of the leader which supports in the development of healthy relationship at organisational level in the setup of global teams. Hence, granting success over the spectrum of intercultural communication.
