Management, Reviews, Appraisals
A manager cannot effectively and effectually manage a large number of employees, because it become difficult for the manager to solve the problems of employees and guide them properly if there are a larger number of employees. The span of control of a manager should be a finite number because manager can properly motivate, influence, guide, and monitor a finite number of individuals that are working in the organization (Witzel, 2014). However, the span of control comprising of infinite number paves the way to the limited growth.
The performance reviews/appraisals are effective because they help organizations in making the decision regarding training, promotion, salary, compensation, staffing requirement, and benefits of the employees. Appraisals can be improved if manager ensures proper communication, growth and development tools, and goal setting for the employees. The managers should provide feedbacks to the employees about their work, and involve them in two-way discussion.
In a matrix structure specialists from different departments of the organization are assigned in order to work on a project (Jankiram & Rao, 2010). The management would use this type of structure when an important project of the company is to be done that requires special skills and expertise. There are two manages in this structure functional manager and project manager.
The internet helps in the development of the interpersonal skills of employees, in a way that it helps in improving communication between the employees, ensures collaboration and team work, which helps in developing behavioral skills and team work skills in the employees.
