When an individual is fully aware of whom he or she is, what one can do, and the extent the person can reach in doing something, it gives an aspect of self-confidence and ability to tackle any life issue with the ultimate surety of succeeding. It is with is in mind that one develops from one step to another with regards to achieving his or her goals in life. The goals and visions we desire to achieve later in life guide our lives. Goals act as movers towards our visions; they gear us to succeed in future by acting as driving forces to develop the better us in the latter days of our lives. The values we uphold help us establish goals that we plan to achieve and even become better people in the society (Remvig, 2010)).
As I progress with my studies, the devotion to succeed in life is rejuvenated every day as I tread towards the future. I have goals that I want to achieve in life, and they are driven by my mission and vision statement I have set for myself. As I look forward to a better future life, I have set for myself a professional mission and vision statement to act as wheels for achieving my goals in life.
Mission statement
My mission as I plan to start a business firm is to nurture talented young entrepreneurs and offer them the ground to develop their career goals through training, financial support, offering motivational talks and even encouraging teamwork. I intend to discourage individualism amongst those I will be working with to enable them learn from each other and learn the importance of working as team and bonding.
Vision statement
My resolve to be successful in life is strengthened every day as I envision myself in the future as an entrepreneur. I have goals to achieve in this sector. I often create the image of the business firm I would want to own in the future, the kind of manager I would be, the group of people I will be working with and how we will be interacting in the company's daily activities. I also envision how the customers will be served, an aspect that requires great minds and SMART goals (Sanchez &Maranhao, 2009). By mentioning SMART goals, I simply mean that the goals I will want to achieve together with my co-workers should be Precise, Quantifiable, Realisable, Accurate and Time-bound. I, therefore, have these long-term goals for my company.
Progression goals
My business will start as a small firm with 20 employees working with me. However, in 3 years' time following the date of its conception, I would want to have expanded to a capacity of 100 workers and having opened three branches of the company in the neighbouring cities. I would also have achieved a higher market share and have a have an increase in the total gross sale by 10% quarterly.
Income progress goals
In 3-5 years, I would want my company to have yielded a 10% growth increase in the total income of the company so as to fit in the ever growing business industry concerning competition and even customer loyalty.
Provision goals
I would like in 5 years’ time, to have improved in customer loyalty and retention level. I would want to have a 20% of customer retention from those who repeatedly purchase services from the company.
Societal goals
In 3 years, I would like my firm to have established social responsibilities in the community. I would like us to participate in community development programs such as sponsorship programs for needy children, offering training workshops for young entrepreneurs so as to nurture their talents and also supporting welfare associations in the community around us.
Summary
In the contemporary world, the stress on the need to have goals is indispensable. The belief that goals act as stepping stones for shaping our future cannot be overruled. We are therefore entitled to be our own managers and plump on what we want in life and how we want our future to be. It is in this context that I chose to set my own goals in life in line with my mission and vision statement. I want to be a successful entrepreneur who has a firm to call my own, work with people from different organizations and impact peoples' lives positively. This is how I visualise my future world. I envision a world that will give me an opportunity to change my life and that of others by being a pioneer of a great company that will help many to scale higher in their career life and even social lives.
In developing my goals for life, I have realised that goal setting needs a lot of creativity and seclusion from the rest of your group so that you can think out rightly without external forces such as opinions from friends or close associates. Goal setting, be it personal or professional is very important as it acts as a stepping stone of one’s journey to achievement. Goals motivate us and make us want to do more so that we achieve whatever it is we had envisioned for ourselves and even people around us. Setting goals help us know who we are and what we can do best, it acts as an enquiry board evaluating us on capability grounds and ones’ understanding of him or herself.
When we can set goals, it brings in the conviction that we are in control of our lives and the choices we make can either shape or destroy us. It also helps us associate with like-minded people in our circle of friendship and close confidants; it helps us know who are supporting our desire to achieve something in life. It also helps to know who to seek help and guidance from so as to climb the ladder towards success with a positive spirit and perception. Therefore, this is a fundamental aspect of life that should be given a priority by every individual who plans to have a catch on something later in life. People should be encouraged to have dreams and set goals and achieve them.
