Good Example Of Movie Review On Decoding Hunger Games

Hunger Games are the modern day phenomenon. The books have become bestsellers, and the films gathered millions of viewers. But behind the action scenes and fights were explored different moral and ethical issues. The most obvious questions uncovered were the change of personality, struggle against the system and the struggle for freedom. As the plot unfolds, we can see how Katniss's personality changes from an ordinary girl who loves nature and wants the best for her family into the active fighter for freedom, ready to spill the blood of the oppressors. The oppressive government of Panem turns our attention towards the problem of control by government. The reality is harsh for the inhabitants of the districts, and they have to fight to regain their rights, just like the people of many nations who want to be free (consider recent events in Ukraine).
However, behind the issues of public control, oppression, struggle for freedom, hunger, poverty, and propaganda there lies a much deeper issue which often rests unnoticed. All of these issues are usually regarded separately, still, together they combine into a much bigger picture. They together form the caricature on today’s world. Panem is the mini-sized reflection of the Earth. Capitol represents the so-called “golden billion” and the districts – other countries of the world. Similarly to reality, the society of Capitol is consumerist and is interested not in the development and progress of the world, but aims for keeping the status quo. As we can notice at the beginning of the film, they are pretty successful in it, considering that the hunger games are held for more than 70 years. Also, they are clear about their message that this tradition should be maintained for the indefinite amount of time, and the districts should be oppressed forever. Which is the direct comparison to the current situation in the world with the developing nations being only the workforce for the developed ones.
