Immigration Issues
Immigration is such a many-sided problem that it is extremely hard to single-out the most important parts of it. Immigration hits the governments that are hosting immigrants and of course, it hits the people who give up their lives either in search for a better destiny or in hope to find peace and save themselves. In this paper, I would like to focus on this recent wave of immigration that has consumed Europe in the past few years, because of the multiple war zones that have occurred in the East of our planet. I believe that the receiving sides should seek new approaches to immigrant issues, because even though help in need is important, keeping the governments together and caring for the people that already inhabit them is vital.
Many great civilizations of the past have vanished as Europe is probably going to soon. Having relaxed on wealth and past conquests, they stopped evolving. Aristocracy gradually disappeared and women preferred to keep pets rather than have children. Previously brave warriors began to spend time in the continuous banquets, indulge in excesses, drunkenness, orgies and debauchery. It came to a point where people were only interested in “bread and circuses”. This is where the stronger, more hungry, more energetic, more ambitious people took over We see this happening today in all layers of modern society. Most people are suffice with only the first few steps of the Maslow pyramid. This is sad, but this is inevitable. However, this is not the only reason/scenario that is happening in Europe. Like Albanians in Kosovo, Africans and Arabs are simply populating European and other regions to such extend that eventually they become the dominant population.
What seemed to be the initial solution seems inadequate now. Strict measures are simply not enough anymore, for it is hard to track the underlying problem, since great number of immigrants are coming to Europe illegally and working without permit. Others, who are on the account of the government, prefer social benefits to working. Moreover, as it was mentioned before, level of birth of immigrants is much higher than that of native people. According to Eurostat, since the 1960s rate of births in Europe is decreasing. With an insignificant increase in the middle of 2000s, it dropped from 7,7 million in 1964 to 5,5 million in 2014. The tendency does not seem to be changing. On the other hand, most Arab, African and Asian people start having children at younger age and generally have more. If we look at the IndexMundi birth rate statistics, we will see that the European countries come after the 150th position. Now, while the general European population is getting older, employees seek for working force and fin them among immigrants. Therefore to certain extend, Europe needs immigrants if not the difficulties that come from Chinatowns, Quartiers Indiens etc..
A large shift of population that Europe has recently experienced, causes not only the demographic problems for the native people, but also leads to social collisions and outrages. This is not to say that immigrants are often hostile. Of course, there are aggressive and unabiding people among all layers and kinds of population, but immigrants usually allow themselves to act more out of law, because of the countries they come from. In most countries of the third world, legal system is a nominal organ of the government, which is eaten by corruption from the inside. People, who for the most of their lives were deprived of basic civil rights, simply do not understand how it is to follow rules and live by the law. Where they came from they had to be wit and inventive in order to get what had to be given to them by law. And now with this wave of immigration, these interracial and intersocial collisions are felt more and more often. On top of this, many immigrants who inhabit European countries now want to impose their rules and vision of the world to the native governments. For example, 74% of French people stated that Islam is incompatible with values of French society, yet there are new mosques build every month (Murray). In most cases, the native governments are too passive to fight back and are too scared of the world opinion and accusation of racism.
While immigration drags a number of issues for both sides, in my opinion, what really needs to be done, and be done in a consolidated way, is give help to the countries people tend to flee from. If those amount of money that are annually spent on immigrant issues by each European country will be spent on rebuilding and introducing democracy to those countries of the third world, the results will be much more promising than what they are now. Moreover, immigrants will feel the urge to participate more, since it is their country and not the capitalists that some of them hate deep down, and want to use for social benefits only. At the same time, it will keep native people of the European governments more positive and will allow them to continue developing their countries by the rules of democracy they were gradually building for centuries. It will turn the vector of the issue to a positive key. However, this should be done under a “Stalin”-strict supervision, since the governments of the most countries that have wars, are extremely corrupt.
