The General Systems Theory maintains that complex systems share particular organizational principles that can be identified and modelled mathematically. Furthermore, the theory is based on the reasoning that the world comprised of various systems that are interrelated and influenced by one another (Butts and Rich, 2010). Numerous sources or articles often trigger the development of theory through the study of concepts that are related to propositions. Research indicates that qualitative research enables researchers to explore behaviours, life experiences, and varied perspectives (Cresswell, 2007). Ideally, research questions that may generate a theory should be open-ended. In most instances, open ended questions provide room for different and broad conclusions and recommendations and feedback from research subjects regarding the issue being studied. From such recommendations and conclusions, a researcher can generate particular theories that inform the nursing practice (Butts and Rich, 2010). For the purpose of this assignment, I will provide sample research questions regarding the participation of family members in planning for the care of critically ill elderly parents.
What is the impact of a nursing home in the involvement of family members?
I would like to comprehend how family members of elderly patients are involved in the treatment and management process. Have you had any meaningful experience in this regard?
What are some of the challenges that can be encountered when family members are involved in preparing the management plans for their elderly member?
Do you feel that family members are often involved in the care and management of their elderly members?
Does home-based care affect the involvement of family members in the care and management of elderly patients?
Does the involvement of family members influence the patient outcomes?
