It is well known that the world is constantly changing, and it is here that the significance of the chosen topic comes in. In fact, change as a scientific notion has become the focal object of different studies, including that of economics, psychology, sociology, etc. In the present assignment we are supposed to reflect on changes that, on the one hand, do really occur in organizations, and on the other – should occur. Thus, the emphasis will be laid on our own perspective of the changes in the future but, firstly, we need to understand the state of present day affairs.
After our perusing the subject we have come to a conclusion that not every change in organizations is happening to benefit people and society. Some of the changes are unnecessary and preventable. For example, there was a case when a large company laid off its employees. Why did it take place?
According to the information, we have the wide layoff was a planned action but the employees were not even notified of the change to come – one more sign of disrespect to the people. In our opinion, such attitude is unpardonable and should be eliminated: if a change is being planned within the organization, everybody who it might concern should be well informed on its nature. Furthermore, we envision that people are asked their opinion on the change and whether it is that necessary: if it is, then there always can be some solutions to the problem of how better organize the change and everybody’s expressed point of view should be taken into consideration.
On the other hand, there are external factors that may predetermine the necessity of change. Actually in regard to the above mentioned company, it was found out that its production was not in demand because of low birth rate. Furthermore, during the layoff period it was discovered that the company was engaged into environmentally unclean production which, indeed, contributed to the crisis and spurred even more profound changes within it. From our personal standpoint of view, this company should have been closed altogether since its unethical, societally harmful and negligent stance on such important issue as environment.
Thus, we come to important conclusions on the nature of changes that can be anticipated within the structure of different organizations. First of all, focusing our attention on the delimitation of external and internal changes, we have to state that it is internal changes that can be most easily addressed as they concern the inner structure of the company and it should be up to the company, or more exactly its personnel, to undertake changes.
Yet this does not imply that changes may take an arbitrary character. Every change should be well thought and considered. Just as we have already stated above, nobody’s opinion regarding the change should be overlooked but most importantly the change should cater on the behalf of the organization and society. In other words, it is not supposed to run afoul of any ethical or legal rules. If it does, this a wrong change and people responsible for it should be held accountable.
External changes, in our opinion, are more difficult to control. They may depend on the economic background of the organization, country, etc. or they may be already predetermined by other changes that have irreversibly taken place within the structure of the same organization or in a broader context – country, society, etc.
This shows that changes, after all, are in a way interconnected with each other, and every wrong change or a change for the worse may trigger the whole set of inauspicious changes. That is why, we believe, that this subject is of paramount importance and we will repeat our main thought that any change cannot be taken on the spur of the moment. As future professionals in this field we are to impart, first and foremost, conscientious approach to changes.
