Introduction
Management science and organizational behavior are important features in a productive business enterprise. As a part of a team several times in my life, experiences had taught me to place a great deal of emphasis on control either I have been the person in control as exemplified in the playground photo or the person controlled through the administration for the educational system in the form of education. . The third photo is the ultimate control involving money and wealth which people seek in order to facilitate life’s necessities and enjoyments. Financial rewards are very often the controlling factor in our lives and were the motivation to continue my education . Management control and organization began in my life as I was a “back of the house” employee in a hotel chain for the years that I was in college before I had my children. This experience helped to funnel my energies to complete my education to achieve the goal of being in the “front of the house”.
Consequently, the freedom to rise and fall on my own was mine for the first time ever upon graduation. Paulo Freire was a Brazilian educator and philosopher and used many of his works to propose the benefits of education but there are many changes after college. During college my work experience included the “back of the House” approach to hotel management. This experience can teach a person about the behavior and organization of the business world in that the back of the house is the total opposite from the front of the house in which the management and customers are. In order to help with the children and their financial needs I will need to work at a higher paying position in order to meet the future needs.
Education is process that has worked well in my development from the kid on the playground to the worker who earns a living and travels as in the third photo. Education will be discussed in this paper as a method of organizational behavior and processes. As proposed by Freire, education is a method to lessen the gap between the classes. . As a product of the current higher education system, there are many challenges that are faced both from the graduate and the outside forces. As an individual going through my first real job, the concerns of being able to support myself and others weigh on my mind (Peterson, 2005).
Social Media has a major influence on my life and on the life of others as the entry into the job market after graduation requires a clear social media indication of your life so far. No other generation has faced this type of scrutiny as the current generation and I particularly feel invaded in the area of my private life by prospective employers looking into my Facebook pages and social media posts (vanDijck, 2013). This to me is share life experiences with friends and family and I like sharing with them the pictures of parties and social activities. However I must be vigilant in these times that prospective employers and workers can view these posts and form an opinion about my likes and dislikes. My Facebook pages are for now not kept up to date as I see older people looking more to Facebook for the shots of their grandkids. Personally for me I am trying not to even post to Vine or Instagram because of the repercussions in the job world for people viewing things that are for my friends (Wittel, 2001).
Main Body
There are contrasting concepts in the individual and the organization. One of them behaviorism which has two schools of thought one behaviorism and one of cognitive science. Symbolic interantion thoughis the identity o physical objects in their environment (Blumer, 1969). The identity of the individual many times depends on the organizational group that they are a part of (Bauman, 2001) For example when I was a child my identity was the child of so and so. As a young adult I was known as the student at XYZ University and as a parent I am known as the parent of so and so (Bauman, 2001). There is a difference in the radical behaviorism and the methodological behaviorism that occurs in the modern sequence of maturation as does the freedom to choose(Schwartz, 1986) . The same concept in industry as someone is the IT guy, the secretary to so and so and it goes on. But to the individual the behavior changes with an emphasis on role development are an every evolving part of life and the understanding of these human problems and how behaviorism and its applications can be applied.
Organization behavior looks at the individual and group dynamics. Educational organizations are one of the first places that people encounter the organizational dynamics. In the work of Freire one encounters the idea of the ignorance and lethargy of people as they go through the economic and social domination . Organizational behavior is the basis of how the enterprises can be structured to work effectively. Learning about organizational behavior in today’s business environment could help managers achieve a better understanding of themselves and the groups working with them. Many authors discuss the fit as modernization model that posits that overall enterprise performance is influenced by how well the marketing organization’s structure; characteristics. Different strategies though evoke a different response and some people need higher degrees of organization to function at the optimal level (Grey, 1994) .
With the knowledge of the best possible procedures for a successful career the manager needs to get a job done by others and the correct steps in the organizational behavior skills. However the environment is always changing in the business and the role of the manager is more sensitive than ever. The ability to handle the new workforce properly and deal with the complications of an environment is increasingly complex. The twentieth century changes the nature of work and production of value.
Many of the predominant organizational theories including motivation and control do not always adjust to the needs of the people involved and the managers begin to note the various differences in people that manage. In an effort to handle the ever changing roles that managers have and the complications of the new work environment the manager of the twenty first century supervisors need to develop their information about the behavior of individuals in their work load but also in the behavior of those that they interact with on a daily basis (Taussig, 1980). The hard skills or written and computer skills are a visible manifestation of the behavior of workers. I had to learn the hard skills at each level of experiences in life and the additional hard skills that college required. ()The skills to even write this report are a learning process requiring the new skills that are considered hard skills in management level work (McRobbie, 2010). This works of preparing computer and program management to reach an end or accomplishment is a part of the organizational behavior involved in the role of a manager.
There are many skills, on the other hand, those are in the field of research surrounding the project management that continues to be researched and are skills attained in the technical and the role of the project or manager must adapt to obtain the necessary soft skill set (Collinson, 2013). The challenges are ever present in the soft skills that the manager needs. (McLeod, et al., 2009)The soft skills include such skills as communication, emotional fortitude and other skills of everyday life with others. Except that the project manager has the additional responsibility for the goals of the business to be achieved in an acceptable manner and in an acceptable time frame(Grey, 1994). The pressures can be exhausting and for many leads to problems in their social and family lives but culture cannot exist without the force of humankind to create it and carry it on.(Braverman, 1974)
Equality of workers is an important concept in the enterprise world of today and one of the most prominent basis for equality is in the gender equality and the sexual orientation equality.(Bowles, 1997).Meritocracy is the idea that whatever the social position is at birth the individual has a tendency to want to move up the ladder . In the economic aspects, the women have been having problems securing the equal pay for equal work in the business world. It was the same at the playground as the boys would monopolize the playground and the girls were expected to be nice and use the swings or something mellow. The difference in the business world is the dollars and cents that are more prevalent in the male workers than the female.(Adib and Guerrier, 2003). The differences are less obvious today and many women have fought very hard to achieve their status. Women have cracked the glass ceiling and learning how to engage in a business world have been part of not knowing what to do but learning on the job (Simpson, 2001). This was very familiar with working at the hotel prior to graduation. As far as the sexual orientation they are still on the lower rungs and not accepted in the mainstream as others (Miller,Rose, 1997).
The sociology of women and the equality issue has been discussed at length in the local press reports and nationally . The death of an age of repression of women is on the horizon. And the changes are on the forefront of change.(Garsten and Gray, 1997). It is not uncommon now to see the women as the leaders of industry and commerce. A woman is running for President so the tide has begun to change (Guerrier and Adib, 1997). Not everyone has the same opinion though as some do not want to see or want to participate in the changes in behavior and attitudes to accomplish this breakthrough (Knights and Clarke, 2013) It is still a man’s world for some as the glass ceiling index indicates and many of the decisions is of a conscious nature as the graduation picture shows (Bauman, 2011).Media plays a major role in perceptions in the modern business world. You have only one identity is according to many media outlets including the Facebook, Twitter and other social media outlets. Social media offers a popular stage or women and men in their professional and personal lives to implicate the skills and self-expression needs of the business world..
In some businesses, there is an exposure to the personal lives of its workers by social media and as much as can be said about protecting your identity is destroyed when it comes to incorrect posting on social media. The absent presence in the sexuality and the experiences of sexual minorities in the workplace are actions that happen in private also and are not needed to be shared by the coworkers or business partners.
The issue of my privacy is important to me and I am sure that it is too many others. The caution is in the reality. The reality is that many people are affected by these posts. Living is the adjunct to an enterprise economy and an authentic desire to achieve. (Peterson, 2005). Changes in an organization and employment practices in the media as this modern world encounters encourages the social media presence. The outsourcing of labor into their homes, coffees shops etc. gives the freedom to the employee to be a more social person online. The interaction is not at the coffee machine or drinking fountain.
Conclusion
This photo essay concentrated on my impressions of the world of business through three particular stages of development, as a child, as a graduate and then as an adult money earner. These stages of life follow the organizational structure of business(Morgan and Knights, 1993). Each of the times that a business manager goes through the childishness, the graduate and then the leader was all part of my development. Once the enterprises are viewed in this manner I tend to see a more patient picture of the environment of the business world (Standing, 2011).
Social Media is an additional resource that future employers have to monitor the personal life of the employees and personally I do not like the ability of my coworkers to check on what I did over the weekend. I feel the same if I were to see images of them and see something that I cannot take back in my mind.
Gender and sexual orientations affect the business world and as women have overcome much of the glass ceiling hold the sexual differences may still be a problem for the coworkers in many organizations(Sinclair, 1995). In the free market, government interference many times will only produce less profitable results (Chang, 2013). The ability to work out of the office can help to alleviate some of the tension in the workplace where everyone is together (Duberly, 2013).
