I am an international student in Vancouver, Canada, and I have been in the country for two years. During that time, I have not had an opportunity to return to my home country, but during the coming holiday season, my family has finally acquired the means to travel to Canada to visit me. This holiday season will be my mother’s first visit to Canada, and I hope to have followed the requisite procedures to reinstate my license in the intervening time.
I understand that there is a very good reason for the suspension of my license, and that is why I have taken it upon myself to educate myself on the laws and regulations of Vancouver during the time which my license has been suspended. I do not intend upon making the same or other mistakes behind the wheel once my license has been reinstated. I have faced many cultural and educational difficulties during my time in Canada, and I have overcome all of them. My perseverance has been an asset to me while I navigate the different rules and norms of this country, and I intend to learn from the mistakes I made while driving previously. It is not my intention to drive in a way that puts anyone at risk, and that is why I have made a concerted effort to become a better, more aware driver during this suspension. If need be, I am willing to take both safe driving and practical driving lessons to ensure that my suspension time is shortened.
I understand the need for safe drivers on the road, and I understand that my license was suspended for a reason. However, due to extenuating family circumstances, I am asking for a shortening or remission of the suspension of my license. Without my license, I will be unable to ensure that my family is able to travel safely while in Canada, and it is of the utmost importance for me that my family-- especially my mother, who is aging and not as mobile as she once was-- experience the best trip that I can offer them. Traveling is not a luxury that my family has often, and I want to ensure that they are safe and happy for the duration of their trip.
TIf I must take any further steps to ensure that my license is reinstated, I am more than willing to do so; I am, however, unfamiliar with the process and hope that more information can be provided to me as soon as possible.
