Currently, AMSN is the sole specialty nursing organization committed to exercising medical-surgical nursing. The foremost mission of AMSN, therefore, is to uphold excellence in medical-surgical nursing. Accordingly, the mission achieved greatly depends on the effort of the Medical-surgical nurses. The said nurses exercise their focused action and influential voice, continuously improving patient health care. Historically, AMSN was established in 1991, with the aid of the management firm of Anthony J. Jannetti, Inc. Also, AMSN underwent effective nurturing with the constant assistance of marketing professionals. The mentioned nurturing ensured accomplishment of heroes in tertiary health care facilities. In 1992, AMSN held its first convention in Chicago. Currently, AMSN is an effervescent community of roughly 10,000 medical-surgical nurses (Karen, 2013).
Notably, AMSN greatly supports the implementation of the Situation Background Assessment Recommendation (SBAR). The said SBAR is a protocol that aims at improving interdisciplinary rounding. Notably, AMSN commands the entire nursing fraternity as the solitary national professional association for medical-surgical nurses. By established valuable programs, nurses acquire excellence, thereby, increasing performance satisfaction in the medical, surgical nursing specialty. Furthermore, AMSN has productively enhanced nursing by emitting professional practice standards coupled with accommodative statutes and improved surgical care.
