Croatia: Where History Meets the Future
Would you believe that we could actually travel back in time? Yes, we can. But we are not using a time machine. We can travel to Croatia. Croatia is a place on earth where I can say, the history meets with the future. Croatians preserved historical places and materials that today; people can touch as if history just happened yesterday. Aside from its number of historical parks and preserved natural resources, we can dive to the clear Adriatic seas, smell one of the freshest airs in Europe, play with all the wonders that nature can offer.
Trakošćan Castle in Central Croatia formed part of the defense system of Northwestern Croatia in the 13th century. Who would have thought that it is still in its original shape up to this time? It has become a museum that contains art works including painting, weapons, furniture and books that can be traced back from the 13th century up until today. A visit to this castle is equivalent to the time travel. Moreover, in Erdut, Slavonia, you can drink wine from the infamous 150-year old oak barrel where they brew the best of the vineyards above the Danube River. You do not only time travel back in the 13th century but even way back 31 B.C. because you can visit the Pula Arena, an amphitheatre that started to be constructed during the time of Roman Emperor Augustus. You can even experience the rich culture and arts in a medieval town center of Trogir. It is declared a UNESCO heritage site because of its diverse display of arts and culture from Venetian, Greek and Roman. The architectures of the town reveal influences from the Renaissance, Baroque and Gothic.
There no greater feeling than calmness and contentment from the sound of rivers and the bristles of trees from the forest. Croatia shelters many nature parks that nature lovers dream of visiting. You will surely be in awe as soon as you see the sixteen lakes of different colors interlink in the Plitvice Lakes National Park. Moreover, it is surrounded by forests. If anybody from here heard of a place called “Golden Horn,” it is found in Croatia. It is a pebble beach in the Adriatic Sea that changes its length from its regular size up to 500 meters depending on tides and winds.
I cannot think of an appropriate word or language that can suffice the description of the wonders that Croatia can offer. It is a place where you cannot ask for more. History, nature, arts, culture and a lot more are preserved since time immemorial. If you have a bucket list for vacations, you better put Croatia at the top.
