Discussion
Supply management acts as the organization’s face for the supply side of the business. Hence, as the representative I will have the responsibility of providing information on diverse fronts, including the materials required and available for supply, market information of their availability, all services offered by the suppliers including the additional services. I will also be responsible for updating the team on newly available supply chain technologies and strategies for reducing the cost and quality of the purchased items.
Mitigating Risk
One strategy of reducing the risks associated with participating in the cross functional team includes the selecting the right leaders and team members. Each team member should have the necessary knowledge as well as the ability to work with other individuals. The leaders will help in formulating plans and create goals which can, later on, act as the performance benchmark. While assessing the suppliers, different elements should be considered, including the timing and the targets. The supplier should be able to deliver the targeted minimum requirements and promptly (Weele, 2009). A feasibility study of the supply will provide feedback on the potential of the employees.
Suppliers
It is essential that suppliers participate in the cross, functional team. They are a resource for the functioning of the team since they will provide the information for budgetary support and the amount of time required for the scheduled design process. This also minimizes the potential coordination problems (Weele, 2009). The relationship can also be used as the basis for sharing technology and other information between the supplier and the company as well as joint training and education processes for the involved employees. Also, there will be the development of formal trust levels.
