Racism & discrimination in U.S.has been a very major issue since the colonial era. My study is based on the same, racial politics remains a major phenomenon & with this it continues to be reflected even today & has taken on more modern form. But is this racism justified? Its just the difference of colour & ethics or else we all are humans made from the same cells, then what this racism stands for ?
I studied a case where a person with no faults was discarded just becuase of racism feelings in the minds of people. His name is Joseph Williams, a person who was a political reporter two years back, who was enjoying a wonderful career for his life's past precious 30 years. Then all of a sudden because of his one single comment in his report his career took a U- turn. He struggled a lot because of that one comment in his reports which was taken the other way by the people. It was his discussion about Republican candidate Mitt Romney & presidential elections of year 2012. In his discussion he said Romney to be comfortable with people like him; therefore, he was at times little uncomfortable in the public gathering, but when it came to friends he was to be comfortable all the time. He just mentioned his friends as white folks, in a witty mannerism. This entire thing was taken in a wrong way & the reporter was considered to be calling Romney as racist. The political internet & news totally exploded on this. And this was all because the reporter himself was an African American, which was the first reason why he was misunderstood. He was totally brought under the image of a conservative anti- white racist reporter. His career had a total downfall. It became almost difficult to find a job anywhere. Just few months earlier to this scandal he had a fight with his wife & pleaded guilty to charges of 2nd degree assault & he signed an order to stay away from her in all aspects & he was assured that, at the completion of 6 months, the entire matter would be wiped off. But in the due time this politico scandal took place & this matter can be public & his image was totally crushed as he was declared guilty to assaulting his wife. Later he somehow managed a retail job at a sports good store. He was broken totally disheartened but somehow he had to manage because life has to move on.
Seeing all this happening in the country of such broadminded & educated people living in it, I wonder how can we spare such a cruel thing happening to an innocent person. Without any proper proofs just on the grounds of some misunderstanding he was punished so badly, was it done fair to him? Today also in this century of modernism some feelings of racism exist. I don't understand, why? I have read many things regarding this racism happening from a very long time back, but now the time has come when people need to open up their minds.
