Article about globalism has attracted me because of its actuality, because we can observe globalism’s development every day around us. However, after finishing this reading, there was a mismatch between my expectations about content and actual situation. Main conclusion of this paper is that globalization is a powerful process which has not been managed in right way. It caused great imbalance in economic situations of different countries and continues destructive practices. Different meanings of globalization caused differences in its managing and in the end polarized countries instead of uniting. Author is dealing with social problems as poverty and inequality in treatment of different countries. I would not say that this problem affects me directly right now, however, when wrong economic choices are influencing society, everyone are suffering.
Analyzed reading is operating with inequality between levels of development of different countries. Here are characteristics as economic experience, type of politics and culture matter. Further this inequality is sharpen between different social classes because globalism is destroying working places and rarely provides new ones quick enough. All in all this inequality is regarded as serious threat to stability of countries’ economy. From sociological perspective, author is referring to structural functionalism because he is regarding world as a system, where all elements are interacting with each other and influencing future development. However there is also conflict approach because described actors are struggling with each others for further prosperity. I am somehow disagree with author’s approach because I believe globalization’s effects vary depending on how society is constructing meaning of globalization and deals with it. I agree with author’s suggestions to globalize for positive creations and opposition to evil as terrorism. However, I would also propose to slow down whole globalization process and pay more attention to economic management.
