Reflection Paper
The American Civil Rights Movement was a particularly transforming part in history that affected the lives of Americans not only in the past but largely during the current years of thriving in the country. It could not be denied that this even has marked a distinct course of development in the ways by which human rights is given particular attention to especially in the course of determining how social discrimination and segregation is seen to be largely affecting the community. What instantiates the said movement is the fact that the people have become more aware of the situation that they wanted to become more involved rather than just serving as watchers and onlookers to the oppression that other members of the community are experiencing.. These individuals have become more coercive and somewhat aggressive in making sure that they become involved in the process of alleviating the situation through making their own mark in history.
The episode of the documentary Eyes on the Prize entitled Mississippi features one of the most important events that lead to the presumption of the American Civil Rights Movement between the years 1962 towards 1964. In this particular episode, a particular assumption of how the passing through of particular events have actually created a massive bridge between the concept of oppression and how humans have become more concerned about the future of the situations they are experiencing at a current state. Notably, the bridge that connects oppressors with the oppressed is a thin line of differences of opinion and perception about the most contrasting issues in life. Most often than not, it is with this approach that the values accepted by both parties become jeopardized because of the conflict of ideas that they share.
For instance, Mississippi has become the breeding ground for hatred and resentment among the people living within the said territory. Practically, people have become more aware of how they are being treated unfairly by their fellowmen. The idea of being the slaves and the lords being the most superior members of the community has blinded the people accordingly. This thought passed on from one generation to another has resulted to people becoming more accustomed to the fact that when a person is born to a slave family, then he is bound to be doomed for the rest of his life; that he is going to be ‘justly’ treated by the lords as a commodity that could both be bought and sold whenever the owners seem necessary. Such consideration on a particular idealism or thought about the justification of social discrimination has lead generations of minorities to believe that they are being treated according to the role and the status that they are stereotyped with in the society.
This is what makes extensive rebellion among those who found the strength in them to find the current social system possible to occur. From this particular record in history, story tellers have found a way to pass on through mouth their remarkable experiences during the said era. The emergence of unsung heroes has served as a turning point for the development of the movement. The more unsung heroes are killed, the hotter and more aggressive the rebellions became. It was during this time that the goal of the minorities to gain control of their own lives have been established, thus making a determinable implication on how they are going to go against their oppressors and take on the chance t become more effective in their decision to be more cautious about their future and the future lives of their children. Never have people been more dedicated to such a unified goal thus making the American Civil Rights Movement to be somewhat one of the most notable events in the world history record that marks the capacity of humans to consider massive changes in their own lives due to the desire of embracing freedom as part of their being and the possibility of becoming more capable of seeing through the complex development of situations in the community and how they are likely going to be able to contribute to such improvement in their lives; as much as they desire to embrace a new course of living.
In this episode, it was clearly imposed that when it comes to making decisions among members of the community during the onset of the Civil Rights Movement in America, it was the willingness of a smaller group of individuals to stand up against the norms that has led to massive victory [that although was not that easy to attain] was somewhat implicative enough in making a mark as to how the future is going to look like for minorities in the American society. At present, the principles and determinable beliefs surrounding the ideal concept of human liberty, freedom and the right to live life to its fullest is largely based on the ideas that were pursued during the civil rights movement. It could not be denied that with such aspect of development and consideration over personal growth and the right to live a satisfying life continues to loom over legal options when it comes to determining the right of a person to become more effective in living a life that is highly responsive to his desires and his goals of becoming a free individual.
