In business, writing a report requires one to follow three main steps. These include planning, writing, and completing. The planning section requires one to find a topic, state the purpose of writing and determine the format of the paper or report. For example, in this paper, the Delta Airline Inc. is compared descriptively to the Frontier Airlines, and the Hawaiian Airlines. In specific terms, comparison is made in the levels of operation (revenue), flexibility in terms of destinations and fleet size.
The second stage of writing involves the actual writing process. It involves gathering of data, divergent and convergent thinking, and other specific information according to the plan in the first step. For example, using the plan as described above, the delta Airline has three international hubs and nine domestic hubs. It has Wi-Fi and a rich history of in-flight entertainment including smart monitors and modern music systems. It has 247 destinations with a fleet of 743 in the mainland. It also has revenue of $37.773 billion as of 2013 (delta air line inc. Form 10-k). The Frontier Airline has much lower fleet size and destinations. In total it has fifty seven and seventy eight fleet size and destinations respectively. The revenue of the Frontier airlines is much lower than the Delta Airlines. It became bankrupt in 2008 due to poor management leading to public acquisition. On the other hand, the Hawaiian Airline is much smaller in size compared to Delta Airlines. It has a fleet of fifty three and twenty eight destinations respectively. It has in-flight entertainment services. Meals are served for long distant travellers but not to interisland flights. It has iPods for hire during flights. It has operating income of $34 million.
The third step in report writing involves coming up with complete report as per the initial plan. In this case, comparing Delta Airline is more advanced, flexible, modern, and with better in-flight service than both the Frontier Airline and the Hawaiian Airline. The management of the Delta airline is also sophisticated and competent than the other two airlines.
