Writing a research proposal can be a daunting task if one fails to approach it in a well-prepared manner. In writing research proposals, there are major checkpoints that need to be considered to ensure that the set objectives in the proposal are met. They include: Defining the problem and understanding the context, researching and consulting with experts, and synthesizing and communicating (Schutt, 2015). Defining the problem and understanding the context works as a roadmap to defining the project. Once completed, one is in a better position to develop a research plan and proceed to the next phase of the project. Also, researching and consulting with experts provides more insight into key research areas. Finally, synthesis and communication allow one to revise and strengthen the project idea using expert feedback. Abiding by these checkpoints would prove fundamental in writing a clear and concise research proposal on the rehabilitation of mentally ill juveniles in detention centers.
Conceptualization and operationalization are key to drafting an in-depth proposal. Conceptualization allows us to specify what is meant by specific terms used in the research (Schutt, 2015). It plays a vital role in helping the researcher create a nominal definition to pinpoint the focus of the research. On the other hand, operationalization aids in the creation of operational definitions which elucidate steps used in measuring concepts. Having an understanding of conceptualization and operationalization helps in communicating why it is necessary to have rehabilitation centers in juvenile detention centers for mentally ill juveniles in line with my research.
While conducting research, one is bound to encounter both constant and variable phenomena. For in instance, in the proposed research which seeks to affirm the necessity of rehabilitation centers for mentally ill youth in juvenile detention centers, the constant phenomenon is that juveniles with mental disorders have their needs ignored while the variable phenomenon is rehabilitating the youths increases their chances of being active members of the society. The phenomena will be accurately explained using the various theories postulated in criminal justice. This will greatly help in providing a platform on which the issues arising from the research can be addressed using empirical research thus providing more insight into the matter.
