Team Performance and Team Improvement
A nursing home care should offer services in a homely environment. Most of the patients in such institutions are stable enough to leave their respective hospitals, but yet need health care to manage their daily activities. Davis is such healthcare founded in the heart of California in Davis and offers services to the sick patients. The organization provides post-acute healthcare to the patients and collaborates with capital Medical, extended medical care to assure the patients of proper and timely services. Erwin, Brownson, Keck & Scutchfield (2016) contends that to enhance efficiency in the care center. However, there is a need to come up with plans to increase the staff development and further improve different teams. The administration can develop their employees by engaging them in various trainings. Counseling is a sure way of ensuring that the staff’s performance is unaffected by personal issues (Erwin, et. al, 2016). Team improvement can be enhanced by coaching and mentoring and ensuring that everyone’s actions align with the goals of the healthcare.
Davis Healthcare is dedicated to excellence in their services, and their main agenda is to offer the best services and reduce instances of readmission. However, the recent fire incidence in Davis disrupted its operations and thus had to take a break. According to the administration, there was a power surge that caused a small fire that proved dangerous to the lives of the caretakers and the patients at large. The healthcare has not been operating, and the patients had to be transferred to other centers. The fire incidence highlighted the inefficiencies of the healthcare and the fact that they have not adequately prepared for emergencies. For such a health organization and seeing that it deals with vulnerable patients, it ought to make better plans and ensure that the lives of their patients are safe. Improving the performance of the various teams will eventually lead to customer satisfaction which will also be reflected by an increase in the revenue and fewer complaints.
Data Collection Tools
Data Needed to Monitor Improvements
The data required in this case would be the number of death occurrences, the readmission rate and the number of people who walk out of the health care healed (Joint Commission Resources, 2008). It would also be important to check the various improvement initiatives and conduct interviews with the residents to assess the issues that they would need improvement on and seek to make the relevant changes. According to Allen (2011), a reduction of the death incidences, in this case, would positively reveal that the healthcare is improving and perhaps would even need to reinforce the changes that are bringing forth the positivity. However, an increase in the death occurrences of the patients would call for close assessments of the activities of the care center and analyze the areas which need working on. Most of the times, the attitude of the caregiver greatly influences the health outcome of the patients that get into the care center (Bendaly & Bendaly, 2012). Notably, the reports tabled by the patients can also help the management in monitoring their progress.
Data Collection tools
The data collection tools would include those that helps one assess the quality of the data because in this case, the main agenda is to analyze the performance improvement (Joint Commission Resources, 2008). The tools would include conducting interviews with both the patients and the residents surrounding the care Centre. A case study would in the case be accurate in getting the desired results together with a questionnaire for specific queries. Census and sample survey would also help in collecting the data needed for analysis. Observation would also be an excellent tool because it deals with what one’s perceives is working or not. It is, however, important to ensure that the data collection tools are suitable for the audience.
Types of Information
A case study would be qualitative in that the tool would help assess the overall health of the patients, which would be by extension translate into the performance of the nurses in the institution. A questionnaire would seek information from the patients on the changes they have noted in the kind of services they are receiving and whether they are satisfied. A census would be a general analysis of the performance of the staff by the use of numbers which would indicate different strengths. An observation would assist in checking how the nurses are conducting themselves and how the teams are coordinating to ensure better services for the patients (Allen, 2011). A sample survey would be a random tool that would also check the activities of the caregivers and thus give instant results.
Strengths and Weaknesses of Data Collection Tools
A case study would be useful because it would focus on a group of patients and give accurate results. Unfortunately for the case study, the sample may be biased and thus give the wrong information. Conducting interviews is a sure way of getting to read the sample’s feelings towards a given subject. The interviews would also allow the patients and the caregivers explain their ideas coherently with no reservations (Bendaly& Bendaly, 2012). The interviews can also be conducted on paper, and this would also help in ensuring that there is no bias in the answers given. However, interviews are time-consuming and thus would not be appropriate for a quick study. A sample survey would enable the data analyst to provide explanations to a certain phenomenon because it tends to answer the question why. A sample survey would produce partial results and thus not the best method thus far
Similarities and Differences of the Data Collection Tools
The data collection tools can be grouped into two with one segment taking care of quantitative data and the other one taking care of qualitative data. The qualitative data explains the quality of the information gotten from the data while the quantitative deals with numbers. A simple survey would serve the same purpose as an interview because the main agenda would be to get answers to get specific questions. The difference between the two would be that while a simple survey would be quick for analysis, an interview would have to be predetermined and thus take more time. A case study would be similar to observation as this would be focusing on a particular group of patients and caregivers.
Conclusion
In conclusion, developing the staff not only motivates them, but ultimately leads to better health outcomes for the patients. A community healthcare must perform in teams, and thus it is essential to ensure that their performance is continually improved. As earlier mentioned, enhancing the group performance is likely to bring customer satisfactions which will thus bring positive returns to the care center. Finally, it is good to engage the nurses in constant training so that they can be updated on any new developments and thus be more efficient.
