Problems with Welfare: Research Proposal Welfare
Introduction
Welfare system proves to be a sophisticated approach while seeking to incorporate various programs and users. According to the critics of the welfare system in the contemporary society, the system fails to offer sufficient state flexibility. Besides, welfare system does not encourage work among the target audience while contributing to the breakdown of the families. Similarly, the system has not been able to realize or demonstrate enormous implications, as well as influences towards the reduction of the issue of poverty among the society members. From this perspective, it is valuable to consider development and execution of this research to facilitate effective and efficient exploration and examination of the truth regarding the propositions. Moreover, the research will consider assessing the ability or capacity of the several proposals in the course of dealing with the raised complaints regarding the influence of welfare in the modern society. Categorically, the research paper will focus on the evaluation of the limitations of the welfare systems, issues of privacy regarding the system, and the eventual reasons for the eventual abolishment of the welfare system.
Background Information/Literature Review
Welfare system tends to make it harder for those on welfare through the integration of diverse restrictions or limitations on the utilization and maximization or optimization of the system. According to Artuso & Jonathan (2013), the approach by the Canadian authority to consider integration or creation of welfare smart cards used for food only might generate critical challenges to the people of welfare. Opponents of this argument believe that integration of such cards will make it harder for the people on welfare through the generation of more poverty, thus, the ineffectiveness of the system in pursuit of improved image of the society. The approach will restrict the freedom of the individuals on welfare to utilize their money to improve their living conditions. Integration of the policy will reduce the dependency of the people on the welfare system while contributing to the deterioration of the medical conditions of the drug users experiencing limitations against the use of their money to procure medicine or drugs (Friedl, Görlich, Horn, Krieger-Boden, & Lücke, 2015). From this perspective, such challenges might force people on welfare to move away from the system, thus, pursuing better career opportunities.
On the other hand, Delaney (2015) sought to examine another challenge facing people on the welfare system while focusing on the proposal by Robert Macdonald, the Mayor of Maine in the context of the United States. The proposal by the mayor seeks to publish information regarding the names, addresses, and other sensitive or private information on the state’s website for the people to access. The proposal proves to generate privacy or confidentiality challenges. The information about people on welfare might be vulnerable or susceptible to issues such as malicious attacks. From this illustration, publication of the names, addresses, and other private information of these people on the website will make it harder for the people on welfare.
According to Wortstall (2013), welfare system proves to be ineffective, thus, the need to undergo eventual abolishment. The article notes that the system lacks a record of accomplishment and success in the pursuit of its goals concerning improvement of the image and reputation of the society while improving the living conditions of the people on welfare. Consequently, it is valuable to enhance the performance of the welfare system to incorporate flexibility and agility in pursuit of the goals such as reduction of poverty among the members on the welfare.
Methodology
In the course of assessing the research questions and objectives, the study will consider utilization of extensive literature review of the sociological research articles. From this perspective, the research will narrow down to critical peer-reviewed journals. The study will focus on the previous researches with a similar scope of this study. The approach is essential in enhancing effectiveness and efficiency in the understanding the topic of discussion while identifying the potential gaps, which might exist in the area of study. The approach will also be vital for the generation of quality data, which will address the research questions and objectives. The analysis of this data will consider utilization of thematic analysis, which aims at identification of the emerging patterns of the data collection process. The data must adhere to the objectives of the research questions. From this perspective, the study will focus on the evaluation and assessment of the following research questions:
What are the challenges facing the welfare system?
How is welfare system making it difficult to people on the system?
What mechanisms can policymakers adopt and incorporate to help curb these problems?
Conclusion
