Terrorism is referred in most cases to all acts of violence and threats used by groups of people who consider that they are being wronged by governments or other organizations and which its aim is to cause fear, hurting and suffering to people. The perpetrators of terrorism normally engage in violence as there only way out in pursuit of certain extreme goals. Some of the reasons as to why terrorism in being experienced presently in most parts of the world include terrorists agenda of achieving certain political, spiritual or religious as well as economic goals. The victims of many terrorist attacks are mostly innocent civilians. I chose this topic because it is currently a major threat to many countries worldwide. Statistics show that acts of violence or terrorism take place almost every day in some parts of the world, terrorism is therefore a serious threat to humanity that needs to be countered by all means.
Historically, terrorism can be traced back to early 1793 during the French revolution. At that time, Maximilien Robespierre who was then among the leaders of the newly created state ordered the killing of all those who were against revolution and put in place a authoritarian government so as to enhance stability in the country (About News & Issues, 2015). Since then many terrorist acts have been happening throughout the world. An example is the rise of non-state terrorism in the 1950s in countries such as Iraq, Syria, Turkey as well as Iran. Terrorism rose to become an international threat early 1970s with attacks such as the 1972 Munich Olympics whereby many Israeli participants were taken hostage and others killed, the attack was motivated by political differences then between Israeli and Palestine.
Currently, modern day terrorism is largely religiously motivated. This kind of terrorism stated in the early 1990s and is considered to be one of the most pressing threat to most countries of the world. Al Qaenda ,Hezbollah as well as Hamas are some of groups that presently engage on acts of terrorism and violence based on their religion. Other religions also such as Hinduism and Judaism have some form of rebellious groups which attack civilians. In conclusion, terrorism and other acts of violence which are deadly have been on the rise in past one decade and have lead to destruction of property worth millions of money and also killings of many innocent people, an example being the September 11, 2001 attack of World Trade Center and Pentagon in New York (Sandbox Networks, 2015).
