A few strengths of the ad posted by the company were the emphasis on a few pointers that would have made a few goals of the company a success. For instance, the ad emphasized on the fact that the Restaurant Manager should have
Team building skills
Relationship management skills and not just in regards to the clients, but also the staff and other stakeholders involved
The ability to develop, train and hire proper talent/staff
The ability to cope with the fast pace of the fast-food fine dining restaurant.
One other strength of the job advertisement is the fact that the company had presented and listed all of the benefits, apart from the obvious salary that would be provided to the chosen candidate. With all of these candies presented within the ad, one can be sure that the concerned talent in the industry will indeed get interested in the job opening and there would be several applicants for the job. However, the advertisement has a few weaknesses as well.
Amongst the few, the one most blatant is the work experience mentioned. The advertisement mentions a work experience of 1 to 3 years in a fast food chain. However, for the job under consideration, this work experience is a little less than what the job warrants for.
Comparing to the company's goals, the advertisement solely focuses on the service aspect of the restaurant. The other aspects such as quality of food, cleanliness, ambience etc are ignored or not mentioned clearly. "Great food with right attitude" -- is served well where Greeter, hostess and server aspects are included. However, the kitchen department and food quality are completely ignored. Hence, the advertisement will attract people who are HR efficient, however, they will be lacking in the action-based efficiency. Therefore, we need to make an ad that focuses on not just relationship management with the stakeholders, but also focus on the real task at hand -- proper time management and action based charged environment.
Within the new job advertisement that we created, the changes have been made in accordance to the company's goals. The new ad mentions job competencies which address all of the company goals -- quality meal, great ambience, courteous staff and fast delivery. Thus, at the time of applying, the job applicant would be clear on the requirements of the company. Second addition is the introduction to the company and the background of the job vacancy. This will ensure that the background of the job and hence, any underlying other competencies required are well understood by the job applicants. Lastly, the work experience required for the job has been increased to 2 to 5 years. This will ascertain that the job applicants have a thorough knowledge of the fast service restaurants and the way these function.
