XBOX
Xbox is a video gaming product. This gaming brand is owned and created by the Microsoft Company. The video gaming brand was initially introduced in the United States in the year 2001.The Microsoft company was the first company to develop a more distinct video gaming product. So far, the company has produced a series of video gaming brand. To date the company has released three series the 6th, 7th and the 8th gaming consoles. Xbox does not only develop video games application, but it also produces Xbox live, which is an online service and online streaming. From these internet-based features, one can use Skype, stream YouTube videos and watch online TV. In addition, the Xbox has features like Kinect, which is meant for one’s body gaming and entertainment (Taylor, 2013).
PlayStation
Commonly known as PS, PS is a gaming entertainment brand. The product is created and owned by the Computer Entertainment Company. This product was introduced first in Japan, in the year 1991. To date the Sony entertainment company has developed and release four series of PlayStation. The first PS product got released in 1994, six years down the line it successor PS 2 was released. The third PS was introduced in the market in the year 2006. The latest of the Sony’s series of product got released in 2013. Their second product PS 2 has made many sales in comparison to the other three products. It sold over 200 million units to date.PS4 broke the Sony records of selling their product. The day the PS4 was introduced in the market in broke the sales by selling around a million units in just only 24 hours. So far, it is the hottest selling brand in the history of all video gaming products Xbox and Wii included (Matt, 2014).
Consumer demographics of Xbox
Xbox is the leading video gaming brand not just in the United States but globally. This gaming product has attracted users from all ages and genders. Moreover, research has showed that more than 70 percentage of this gaming brand are young people. Numbers from the Entertainment Software Association showed that Xbox users are not only dudes, out of 100% 51% of the user are kids, 38% of the user are female. Additionally, out of the 38% of female gamers, 47% were women over 18 years. From this figure, it clearly visible that Xbox games tend to cater for the entertainment need of all people with no discrimination of age or gender (Taylor, 2013).
About the top selling country, the Uk leads. Gaming in Uk has grown extensively since the introduction of the Xbox in the U.S. Additionally, Xbox search on Bing have also increased to 172% over the past 24 month. After the development and the release of the latest Xbox generation console, Xbox sales have increased with 52% from the month of October and November this year 2014. This has been contributed by the launching of Kinect gaming and entertainment program in the Xboxes products. Within 25 days of the introduction of Xbox in the market, it was able to hit 8 million units. This was an exceeding number to their initial estimate that was just 5 million units (Jeff, 2014).
Consumer demographics of PlayStation
The consumer’s demographics of PlayStation are not as stable as they used to be before the introduction of Xbox. It is believed before the introduction out of every four homes in America; one home has a PS. This can be translated to around 25% of all homes had a PS. To date PS is still in stiff competition with Xbox products. Many PS users spend around 54% playing other than other household’s chores during the free time (Matt, 2014).
Consumer psychographics of Xbox
Xbox gaming brand is appreciated by its consumer who wants to have choices in accordance to their lifestyles. The various attractive feature of Xbox like the Kinect, the online streaming services, Wi-Fi direct, voice operation and camera tend to attract many people from all age groups. These innovative features are linked to the preference of Xbox to its user. Even after the introduction of video gaming products like Wii and PlayStation, this product is still preferred by kids, teens and adults due to their extra feature like camera, Wi-Fi, kinetics. The kinetic feature has contributed mostly because the kids, teens, and young women can dance, exercise, and play with it. The Xbox processor and graphic are user-friendly thus creating more fans of using the Xbox (Dan, 2014).
Consumer psychographics of PlayStation
A recent study by Experian Consumer research has shown that there was a great difference in the age group of the user who purchased the Xbox and the PS. The study showed that a large number of people who purchased the PS were adults, and not just adult there were people who aged from 45 or more (Nick, 2013). In near future Sony target to create games that are more female friendly this is because few females and kids are attracted to buying PS. The PS games are more artistic that why they attract more adults and lesser kids because of their adult-focused taste (Aida, 2014).
Summary of differences and similarities between Xbox and PlayStation
Both Xbox one and Sony PS4 were released to the market around five months ago. The Xbox and PlayStation have a lot of differences and similarities. This has been a contributing factor on the battle between these two products. Some users are even confused on what to buy or which product is more suitable to their needs (Will, 2014).
In comparison to PS4, the Xbox is more expensive with around $100. Additional there are extra user charges like the Xbox Live Gold users fee that is need for the customers to have access to the additional cool features like the kinetic. After the payment, the added membership fee users may be frustrated to note that the kinetic and voice commands will not always work. The online streaming and the integration of TV can also be frustration when they do not operate. Another notable failure in Xbox is the dashboard, the dashboard is not user-friendly because it is complicated this is because the system lacks DVR integration. Nonetheless, the PlayStation has more integrated graphics and better as compared to the ones of the Xbox. PlayStation has roll of more games from their exclusive records that are easily available to the user without extra costs. All these factors consider and compared to Xbox it is evidently the better video gaming product by considering its functionality. Due the Xbox high purchase price and their not ignorable imperfections in kinetic and integration of TV, Xbox has introduced Titanfall for free. The Titanfall helps the Microsoft to keep this gaming product in the shelves (Will,2014). There is an increased competition between the Xbox AND Playstation but the Xbox always wins.
Another great difference was in regard to the age group Xbox has more users from the age group of 45 and below, while the PS has users from the 45 and up (Alan, 2008).
Conclusion of research 1 and 2
The Xbox, PlayStation, IPhone and Samsung galaxy are all entertainment gadgets. However, these gadgets have a lot of distinct differences and similarities. Firstly the main similarities between these products are that they are meant for entertainment purposes. Although the Iphone and Samsung galaxy have additional entertainment, features it is important to note that all the four products can be used for video gaming purposes. Another similarity is that users of all genders and ages use these products. Additional these products have functions that enable the users to use the internets for the purposes of communication like Skype and the online viewing and streaming (Apple Press Info. 2014).
One of the main differences on the four product is that, the iPhone and Samsung phone has additional features that lack in the Xbox and PlayStation. These functions include the voice call, the texting function, and the browsing function. Although the gaming product can be used for Skype, their feature not includes the named function for these two phones. Moreover, all these four varying brand have different system for their functionality. The Xbox and PlayStation are a complex that contain many item for it to work like the controller, while the phone is just a single item that items by its own.
