It is important to maintain a healthy body and mental health to be fit, because as we age, the body starts getting weaker and the person is prone to many illness. Fitness tests provide a good opportunity to gauge our health and make changes to the lifestyle. I performed a self-assessment on myself using the various techniques such as rating the plate, feeding the feelings, eating mindfully or mindlessly, and loving the body or hating the body based on the National Fitness Test developed by the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
For the Rate the Plate assessment, I am in the 16 to 23 points, and I understand that I need to make a few changes to my diet and lifestyle. My goal in this section would be move from sometimes option to the usually option and score more than 24 points in my next assessment.
In the Are you feeding your feelings I scored 17 to 47, which is an average range. The trigger points in this section are that I turn to food when I am upset, anxious, worried or stressed. Usually, I tend to eat more when I go through negative emotions and feelings. Normally, I do not turn to food in cases of low self-esteem and self-worth as they induce less confidence in me.
Eating mindfully or mindlessly is an important self-assessment technique because it allowed me to be conscious in various situations and decide on my eating patterns. My mean score in this section was 4.97 which is slightly lesser than the highest score. Depending on this score I can decide and create a strategy that will help me to experience various situations mindfully or mindlessly. This is a good exercise to be conscious in our daily lives.
The last section, body love or body hate provides an insight of my body in which I scored 16 – 23 points, which is an average category. I lost points in the options such as I make negative comments about my appearance to myself, and I compare myself with other people and lose confidence. This section allowed me to reframe my body image and appreciate myself.
