Some people are born leaders. Their qualities are characteristic of people who were meant to lead others during their whole life. Those who are not naturally blessed with this asset work their way towards being an enviable leader. However, it is an uphill task to strive to inculcate abilities that define innate leaders. I am one of those who lack many of the leadership attributes and continuously work towards achieving perfection.
The most essential task of a leader is to communicate effectively with others. However, I would have to admit that I sometimes fight shy of raising my opinion or communicating it to my fellows. One of my teachers has identified this issue and is now helping me overcome my fear of public speaking. I am very honest and fair; in fact, I am honest to a fault. Leadership also requires some diplomatic skills that I need to work on. I am very straight forward, and that is not very positive for a leader.
A leader always has to listen to the opinions of others before taking a decision. Undoubtedly, I am a very effective listener and believe in bringing everyone on the same platform through open discussion before a decision is made. I exhibit flexibility by grasping the alternative point of view and analyzing it for logic. This way, my opinions simultaneously stay fluid, and my knowledge keeps getting updated. I believe that leaders should not stick to what is right in their opinion only but should also listen to others.
I am very quick on the uptake, and this quality can make me a better leader. Moreover, I am very thorough in every task. However, I have realized that I am not that successful in influencing others or convincing them to join my side. This is because I lack the communication skills characteristic of a leader. I have started watching speeches of great leaders in the world to note the kind of phrases and words they used in order to mobilize the masses. It has proved really beneficial till now. I have plans to keep practicing the art of speech until I attain the level of a leader.
