Good Example Of Service Project Reflection Essay

My service project involved picking up trash on campus. Fifteen classmates, myself, and our instructor lined up on campus and walked to the plaze, picking up trash we found along the way. We were provided with trash bags and gloves to pick up the trash. I was surprised at the amount of trash that I saw on the path. I did this activity two times to fulfill my service project. As a result of my service, campus and the surrounding areas have less trash and is more appealing to see.
After finishing the project, I felt proud of my work. On the morning of the project, I was excited to get to help clean up around campus. The other people in my group felt the same way. During this activity, I never felt nervous or apprehensive and got along with the other members of the group and my instructor. Looking at the amount of trash that we saw and collected, I was surprised to see how much we gathered. Casually walking to the plaze, I never noticed how much trash there was. It amazed me to see how wasteful people are and willing to throw their trash on the ground. I learned how much trash people can produce and the effect of non-biodegradable garbage can have on our environment. This relates to what I had learned in class about the environment and the pollution that humans casue. Towards the end of the activity, I began to feel ashamed for my classmates and how wasteful they are. I realize that I am not perfect and litter every once in a while, but after this service project, I will never litter again.
At the conclusion of the activity, I felt proud of the work that I had done. The path from campus to the plaze was clear of debris and help to beautify the area. I am glad that I had the opportunity to help pick up trash. I realize how people can be negligent and litter because it is easier than finding a proper trash can. I will become more conscientious about my littering and encourage other people to do the same.
