Upon watching the video “Side-by-side of Melania Trump, Michelle Obama speeches“, it is inevitable to come to the conclusion that Melania plagiarized Michelle Obama’s speech. This video highlights the fact that Melania used the same words in the attempt to express the same ideas which Michelle expressed during the Democratic National Convention 8 years ago. There is no doubt about the fact that these ideas might be regarded as common ground for expressing the values of the humanity as a whole, but Melania Trump’s speech consisted of the words and phrases which were an important part of Michelle Obama’s speech.
It is also important to realize that both of the speeches were given at the same type of event, which is the presidential campaign and that both of these women spoke as the wives of presidential candidates. Michelle Obama gave her speech at the Democratic National Convention, while Melania Trump gave it during the Republican National Convention 8 years later and both of them had the purpose of supporting their husbands. It is hard to believe that Melania would plagiarize the speech of the current first lady on purpose, but the speech is the act of plagiarism anyway. Michelle Obama spoke mostly about values which were instilled in her and in her husband by their families and that these values are supposed to be passed on to future generations. Melania stated the same idea using the same words and she also mentioned the importance of all the young people across the nation to understand these values. Both of them spoke about respect and working hard for achieving one’s dreams, but Melania used Michelle’s choice of words once again. It is not questionable that both of them talked about ideas which are common among millions of people. However, Melania seems to have delivered the same speech as Michelle without adding a personal touch or a new insight.
Melania plagiarized Michelle’s speech because of the fact that there are so many similarities between these two speeches. She is not the person who should be blamed for that because it is common knowledge that there are always speechwriters working on the presidential campaigns and it is their responsibility to monitor previous speeches and to produce original works. This could be a publicity stunt or an honest mistake, but the point is that Melania Trump and Michelle Obama have similar personal values.
