As a freshman, I am applying for a sophomore transfer, based on a 3.72 GPA my first semester at University of Houston Bauer Honors. I took Human Situation and my English class in Honors at the college. Commuting to UH makes a hassle for me, and I am deprived of several opportunities available outside classrooms on campus. In 2013, I graduated from Stephen F Austin High School in Sugar Land, Texas. Having successfully moved from Karachi, Pakistan, in the middle of my junior year in high school, I still had issues with my credits and coursework transferring, and had to work really hard to catch up and graduate on time. Unfortunately, I could not do enough AP classes, as they were not offered in my Pakistan school, except for the CIE O levels exam. I chose Islamic, and Pakistan Social Studies O levels exams, and got A's in both, and I also took AP Government, Economics, Calculus BC, and US History in high school. My diligence and brilliant performance was acknowledged, and I received an Academic Excellence Award in my senior year and the College Board AP Scholar with Honor Award for my AP exam scores. I must also admit that it has been very tough to pass the ACTs and SATs, and I have not scored well in English Section, but got a very good score in all Math Sections.
My grades unquestionably show that I am good at math and numbers, thereby, I want pursue with my studies and do accounting, based on a solid knowledge. I am an active learner, and it is my true pleasure to take accounting classes at the college. Since UT has the best accounting program in the country, I want to branch out and live independently from my parents, to grow personally and professionally, and to learn from the best. A chance to move to a new city and experience the culture and diversity, given my already diverse background, is very promising, and I am eager to meet new people and make friendships. I am profoundly interested in accounting, especially in a BBA+MPA five year program, which offers a dual degree - Bachelors and Masters. My aim is to utilize analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills and learn about the most urgent business issues. After finishing this unique program, I want to take the CPA exam and work as an auditor, or a tax preparer. I have had to work rigidly to catch up with my school when I moved from Pakistan, and my counselor put me in the regular and basic classes for a start, and it prompted me to excel to get an upgrade to Honors Pre-calculus. I studied day and night to achieve as high results as possible because I am not a quitter. Initially, I did not apply for the freshman year after such a big transition within 2 years. One of the reasons was that my family was suffering financially and emotionally, and it was a massive step and change in my life.
My straightforward, yet mature, life philosophy is best expressed with C.S. Lewis’s words “Hardship often prepares an ordinary person for an extraordinary destiny.” True that studying often turns out to be hard, but it is necessary, and I feel if I had arrived at the States earlier, I would have been at a better place academically. Yet, I believe that everything happens for a reason, therefore I would really like to move on and not to make that a weakness, but turn it into my strength, and make new memories and stories that are not tragic any longer.
Thank you for consideration.
