Tennis is a sport which is Olympic and it is played in single and in double because of its form. There are two or four opponents who are facing each other across the net. It can be played on different surfaces such as grass, clay, hard and carpet court. It is played with a racket and a ball and the goal is for the opponent to prevent another opponent to return the ball in a way that can get points. Novak Djokovic is the best tennis player in the world and he has been number one for a long time, while Nadal is also among top five players and they play tennis in different styles.
The most prominent tournaments are the Australian Open and the US Open which are set on a hard court, the French Open which is set on clay and Wimbledon which has the court covered in grass. Many players prefer different surfaces, but Djokovic is one of the players who are good at any court. Nadal is also a great player, but he relies too much on his physical strength which prevents him from realizing his full potential. On the other side, Djokovic relies on his versatility and strength of mind which make him prepared for all the inconveniences that might happen. He is always ready and saves his strength, while Nadal loses his energy too early which makes him lose a match that he would normally win. The fact that both of them are of similar age is relevant because they are not beginners as professional tennis players and they are supposed to have a great knowledge about how to win a match.
The goal is to use as least effort as possible and to develop a strategy and tactics so that the opponent loses in the least amount of time. There is a strategy which is related to this because the players need to save energy and to be level headed. Their rationality is the key and they have to remain alert while being relaxed at the same time. Djokovic is the current number one because he uses all these strategies in order to have as much energy as possible throughout the match. On the other hand, Nadal relies on his strength which can make him vulnerable.
Moreover, Djokovic plays aggressively on the baseline and all over the court, while Nadal also has an aggressive style but he is usually located behind baseline. Djokovic is agile and plays defense in a great and powerful manner and he has the best backhand in the world at the moment. Nadal covers the whole court with his style, but his style is strong and steady which makes him tired too soon and causes injuries. He has the best performance on clay and his forehand is unique and very precise.
Both of the players are aggressive as well as defensive, fast and cover the court in the best possible way. Djokovic has the advantage of being mentally stable because he practices psychologial techniques of relaxation as well. The journalist Alan Tyers wrote: “Winner after winner screamed off his racquet in the first three games, stamping an authority on the match that he never relinquished. Nadal played very well in his own right, but there is simply no answer to ND in this mood” (Tyers). This happened after a match between the two of them in November last year and Djokovic still plays in such a manner that he seems to be unstoppable.
Tennis is one of the most popular sports today and many people play it recreationally as well. Being psychologically stable is crucial both in this game as well as in life in general and there is much to learn from tennis players. Contemporary culture is related to people being busy and being unable to relax which is why watching tennis can be educational as well as a good way to relax and have fun.
