Government systems are diverse. It differs from country to country. The United States federal government for example went through a long history before it masters its systems. Like any other countries, America was devastated in a Civil War in 1861-1865. There are several reasons for the war and it includes the plight for secession of other states and the struggle for rights. After the Civil War was America’s rise to becoming a colonial country and it colonized fifteen countries in the west to the far-east. The government system is based on the shortest constitution with a Preamble and seven articles. It is the basic law of the land but it has also changed through time. It went through 27 amendments.
The federal government has three branches namely the legislative, executive and the judiciary. The president has the legislative is the branch that is in-charge of tempering laws. The United States legislative has two houses which is the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Executive branch is headed by the federal president. It is in-charge of executing laws tempered in Congress. The judiciary is branch that has the power to interpret laws through the cases at hand. The said branch is headed by the Supreme Court. Moreover, the American political system has only two political parties which are the Republican and the Democratic. The federal system of government is complicated because the power over the nation is not in the control of the central government. The states have the autonomy over their territories.
Meanwhile, the Grecian government is more complicated. It is a presidential parliamentary form of government where the ultimate power lies in the hands of the president. The supreme president is elected by the Parliament of Hellenes. The president sits in power for five years. The Hellenic Parliament has 300 representatives who are elected through a secret ballot and they sit in the parliament if four years. Aside from the president, the parliament which is headed by the Prime Minister has control over the government. Greece’s legal system on the other hand is under the supervision of the Ministry of Justice. The regular judges have the judicial authority and autonomy.
Moving to the government of Turkey, it was established in 1923. It is a parliamentary democracy government with free market economy. Several decades from the establishment of the republic was the proclamation of the constitution in 1982. Like the United States Federal government, it has three branches which are the legislative, executive and the judiciary. However unlike the United States legislative, Turkey has a Unicameral Congress called the Grand National Assembly. It has 450 deputies who are elected every after five years. Turkey’s executive branch is similar to that of Greece. It has a president who has a seven-year term and the Council of Ministers led by the Prime Minister with five-year term. The judiciary branch is also similar to Greece with independent courts in conformity with the 1982 constitution.
The government of Cyprus is presidential guided by the basic law drafted in 1960. The legislative and the executive are separate powers. The president appoints ministers who cannot seat in Congress rather serve as ministers of government agencies. Cyprus has a long history of conflict with Turkey and Greece because of territorial claims. Today, the economic situation of the republic is overtaken by divides in politics and divides due to the peace talks.
