Objective
1. Introduction
An induction motor is an AC motor, which the electric current in the rotor produces the torque. An induction motor requires commutation. All parts of the energy is transferred from stator to rotor. Three phase squirrel cage induction motor is widely used in the industrial application. In induction motor, the AC power creates the rotating magnetic field that rotates the rotor. This rotating magnetic field produces the opposing current in the rotor. This creates the magnetic field in the rotor, which opposes the rotating magnetic field. The rotor will start to rotate in the direction of the rotating magnetic field. The split phase motor operation is same as that of single phase motor. The split phase motor has two windings; single phase starting winding and main winding. The starting winding is used to start the motor and followed by run winding. The capacitor start induction motor is used to create rotating magnetic field to start the motor.
2. Results
Split Phase Motor Wiring Connections (closing the switch no more than 3 seconds)
Did the motor Growl?
No, the motor growl
Did the motor run?
No, the motor didn’t run.
Did the motor turn?
Yes, the motor didn’t turn.
What determines the direction of rotation of the motor?
It depends on the loss
Split Phase Motor Wiring Connections (closing the switch more than 3 seconds)
Did the motor Growl?
No, the motor growl
Did the motor run?
No, the motor didn’t run.
Did the motor start?
Yes, the motor start
Did the motor noisy?
Yes, the motor was noisy
The direction is changing?
It is changing every three seconds
Can you compare the vibration level of single phase and three phases?
The three phases produces much vibration than the single phase. Three phase is very noisy in operation.
For no load, calculate slip, active, reactive, and power factor. What Is the motor efficiency?
I =3.5, S = 176 S, P = 130. The efficiency is more than 85%
3. Discussion
Based on the testing, the above questions have been answered. The answers are very accurate based on the observation. At last all the objectives are satisfied in this report.
