Good Example Of Theory And Practice Essay

There are many times in life when one has to make decisions between diverse appealing options. This was the case for me during my undergraduate studies: I had to choose between academic prowess and on the field experience. I chose the latter, leading the former to fall in its measurement, the grade point average. Nevertheless, this allowed me to amass professional accomplishments and work history that I would not have had otherwise. Therefore, as in many cases, my grade point average does not quantify the knowledge I have in the area, as I chose to obtain field experience and an academic education, instead of just the latter.
As such, I was running my family business while pursuing my degree in marketing. Even though they had been open for more than a decade, I fixed the goal of making it growing and taking it to another level. After careful planning, I decided to take an expansive approach, and I saw many positive results. I increased revenue by adding different product lines, team building and traveling to trade shows to promote my business. Furthermore, I launched a website to help with sales. I also diversified the company to the banking industry, which allowed me to develop leadership skills, sales know-how and business acumen. This experience and skill permitted me to successfully manage four profitable branches. In this sphere of my job, I was in charge of promoting staff, and both participating and speaking at bank round table conferences.
However, I have to say that I am not completely proud of my choice. I like to excel at everything, and my grade point average definitely does not reflect this aspect of my personality. Nevertheless, this also served as a learning opportunity, as it allowed me to reinstate the importance of academic study, as it is also significant.
In conclusion, I am confident that I would excel if given the opportunity to learn in your school and MBA program. Even though my grade point average was not the best, it was due to my being focused on amassing experience and work skills, having gained extensive knowledge through my work. Furthermore, there are some abilities that I developed in the job field that I could apply to the academic work that would be needed, including perseverance, enthusiasm and tact. I believe that it is important to practice what one is learning theoretically, and this business venture gave me the opportunity to do just that. One should not conform one’s self on just the academic aspect of a profession, and especially one as empirical as business.
