First of all, it is essential to note that democracy should be perceived by people as the integrated system of the governance, which has the potential of providing all the qualified citizens with the options of being engaged into the creation of proposals, laws, legislative acts as well as contributing the general strategies of the country’s development. Such engagement is possible in the cases of the direct action of the citizens or via the actions of the elected officials, representing the common collective interests of the citizens. This essay would be dedicated to representation of the major aspects and traits of democracy- as one of the most popular forms of governance in the global scales. The core purpose of the essay is to reveal the major specific features of such governance – so the citizens know their rights and obligations within the current society.
Review of literature
The core reason of the current global trend that the democracy is the most popular form of governance is the fact that it implies the prestigious freedom, which is enjoyed by the citizens of democratic countries. It has the set of the following distinctive features: fair and free election process; equality of all citizens before the law; protection of human rights in different areas of their lives and professional activities; portion of being actively involved into the political and social activities in the country (Black 78).
In addition, active role in public life of the democratic countries belongs to the citizens. That is why the democratic form of governance is rather desirable and popular all over the world (Corradetti 255). At the same time, those countries, which are tending to apply democracy as the form of governance would consider all the underlying aspects of it – such as need of ensuring the respectful attitude towards the people’s opinions and manage the exiting dictatorial tendencies (Landemore 226)
