I like the construction industry. Construction is one of the most important and necessary industries because it provides us with the places to live. Our homes, ranches, shopping malls, giant skyscrapers and even palaces and bungalows are all products of the construction industry. This, together with farming, ranching, and fishing, is by far one of the most ancient industries ever emerged. And the one where measurement itself could be born.
Measurement is one of the most important parts of construction. Before the building process starts the project draft is developed. It should account all the materials and elements being in consent with one another. To do this, precise measurements and calculations should be performed. Lengths of all elements are thoroughly measured during different stages of construction. The necessary area and perimeter measurements are also done. All these procedures are performed multiple times to ensure that the building is constructed according to the project, that everything will be okay and it won’t have holes or prominent parts in it. Metric system is commonly used in construction. Everything is usually measured in millimeters – all the values for lengths and widths of walls, windows, bricks, stairs and other parts. Without thorough and precise measuring, construction as we know it wouldn’t exist.
Another essential part of the construction is the calculation. Architects should compute all the necessary sizes for different parts and elements so that they all fit together. Yet this is the simplest part. The calculations of strengths, stresses, stability and durability are the hardest part. To perform them architect should take into account all the natural factors, required size of the building and number of stories as well as the properties of the materials used. This is done to calculate the right types of materials used, the right thickness of the walls, the number of columns etc. for building to withstand all the possible stress.

My career of choice is an architect. To become an architect massive amount of work in education and practice should be done. The basic required degree is a 5-year Bachelor degree in architecture. Next step is the completing of the 3 years internship followed by obtaining state-issued license. To develop own expertise one could also earn NCARB professional certification or continue education in master’s programs.
Being an architect sets high requirements for mental and physical abilities. One should possess strong communication and analytical skills, critical-thinking and organizational skills, visualization skills, artistic feeling and creativity. Also the expertise in the use of special CADD software (computer-aided design and drafting) should be substantial. Good physical and mental health is also required to withstand high levels of stress during complicated projects and large amounts of work.
Architect is a highly demanded job in my state. Average salary of an architect is around $75,000 per year. This is the level of income sufficient for supporting myself and my family.
If I wanted to become an architect I would pursue a Bachelor’s degree in architecture. I would work at a part-time job during the school year and a full-time job in the summer to finance my education. It would take me five years to do it. Next, I would attend a training or internship program for 3 approximately years. After graduating I would obtain the state license and become a legal architect.
