Part 1
For many years, it was unbelievable that a woman could invent anything. A lot of emphasis was placed on the inventions made by men (Welter 151). In the history of United States, some women went forth and invented some of the useful products used up to date. For example, a woman like Margaret Knight was able to invent the paper bag machine, despite the many challenges that she underwent (Women-inventors.com). Another woman who came up with a useful approach that helped many physicians is Emmy Noether. Alice Evans is also remembered for the invention of the bacteria that is responsible for the undulant fever. Despite the great effort made by the women to invent new things, their history is still unnoticed. Rarely do people talk much about the great things done by women in the past. The impact of not putting much consideration on the great things done by women in the history of the U.S is that it has lowered the self- esteem of the women today. For that reason, it is difficult to see women coming up with new inventions today. Therefore, the achievements of the women in the past should be highly emphasized in order to increase the esteem of young women who are growing up.
Part 2
I do agree with the post of Sean Cyre that we do live in a society that regards women as equal to men; therefore, women can aspire for the same job opportunities as men. Cyre also states that some individuals still treat women as inferior, and this is a fact.
The most interesting thing from the readings is that if anyone tried to tamper with the real virtues of True Womanhood, he was regarded as an enemy of God (Welter 152). In the early Society of America, women were treated equally before the whites came with their way of civilization (Welter 152). The ability of women from Zuni tribes to divorce any man they wanted is also interesting compared to nowadays whereby it almost the opposite; men do divorce women at will (Zinn). In Sioux, women were believed to carry knives because they were capable of defending themselves against any attack.
In conclusion, women and men should be treated equally in all fields of the life. Cases of treating women in an inferior way should not happen because we are past those days.
