Summary
The interview is between Teresa Torres and Carlos, a Hispanic. It was conducted on 13th May, 2016. It is majorly about the life, family as well as the people who influenced Carlos into whom he is. He was born in Argentine area where most of the people were related. Carlos father had twelve to thirteen in number most of whom died at early ages. Carlos is a third generation of his family to be in the USA and is the fifth born of his family.
Carlos dad was born Ellsworth. He worked as a laborer and then a car inspector. He dropped out of the 10th grade and worked anywhere as long as it was work. He served in Germany, France Italy in the World War II. He was in the artillery section of the military. However, he lost his hearing as a result of working as an artillery soldier. He married the mum after being discharged. They got married in Argentine and moved into the house where his grand dad and mum resided, that was in 1945. They moved to Missouri city in the 1960s. He went to the first school in 1964 before being transferred to another school in 1968 that was dominated with blacks. Carlos started doing community action work which was self-satisfying.
He started working in the police department. His dream was to be in law enforcement or have a law degree. He signed a contract to work 18 months in the HR department in the police department. After 18 months, he was to go the police academy. He later become involved in the education sector. In 200, he went to work for the Hispanic Economic Development Corporation. It started in the early 90s. This organization was to create jobs for the under paid communities.
His mother also influenced him to a great deal. She always documented everything bad that the children did and then report in the evening to their dad. She was loving, great cook and always encouraged them into being great people in the society.
Some of the values that influenced him included being humble. Even though they were poor, their dad did not mention to them that they were poor. He believed in the goodness of the people. He died at 91 years. Carlos has 4 children, 2 biological and 2 step children. He encourages all of them that education is the key to success. He was able to instill in the children how to be financially responsible by advising them on the amount to take to church, savings and spend.
