Dear Mr. President,
My name is [ ] and I am an ordinary teacher in New York’s school. I am writing this letter as I would like to draw your attention to a few facts that we have in our country right now. The United States of America is the country that teaches the world community how to build democracy and respect human rights. However, it is not noticed what is happening in our country in respect of human rights, in particular rights of children, and in other spheres of life of the American people.
USA has the first place in statistics of cases with child abuse. Over the past 10 years in the United States were killed 4 times more children than soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 78% of cases the cause of death was neglect of the child's life. Every 10 seconds in the USA, there are reports of violence against a child or several children. Every day in the United States 5 children die from violence and 80% of them did not reach 5-years age.
Human rights defenders of the USA note that today the country occupies the 1st place in the world among developed countries in terms of violence against children. If to be precise, today in the United States live about 3 million teenagers who ran away from home. In America every 7th child runs away from home before he reached adulthood. In the United States annually disappear up to 40 thousand children. The motives of these crimes are rape and murder, receiving the ransom from their parents.
Children are the most unprotected and vulnerable part of society and they are completely dependent on adults. Unfortunately, in our society the prevailing view is that the problem of child abuse is an internal problem of the particular family and does not require the intervention of society and state. However, the right to protection from personal violence, especially family, is one of the main rights of citizens and children in particular.
In my humble opinion, the government should strengthen the performance of social-legal protection of children-orphans and children deprived of parental care, primarily in the sphere of development of family forms of upbringing, is the continued training of specialists who provide social support to foster families, orphanages of family type; the introduction of mandatory social support for families-guardians; cooperation with the entities that carry out social work with foster families, orphanages of family type, to exchange information on preventing problematic issues that arise in families.
All in all, taking into account the current situation of the child and the status of observance and protection of the rights of the child, the definition of the constitutional legal status of the child and to identify the fundamental rights of children is extremely important for further research, translating scientific developments in the life and the improvement of the existing situation in the sphere of the rights of the child. Moreover, the important and hard thing was and still is the social protection of children with disabilities, especially those who have a limited ability to self-care and educated at home. Psychological attitude towards disabled people did not change a lot as well as the attitude to disability specialists.
I sincerely hope that my letter will be useful and helpful for you. Thank you in advance for your time!
Respectfully,
