Good Experience Narrative Essay Example

Foresight is one of the most important qualities to possess in survival. One has to be able to assess a situation and decide whether or not it is safe to get involved. That point will come for each and every individual. I have personally been at a crossroads as such. I was forced to “predict” the future and weigh the pros and cons of the outcome. After all was said and done, I do believe that I made the best decision.
One summer evening, I receive a call from my friends. They were on a mission to get out of the house and do something fun. It was the summer, and such a want was completely expected. I remember asking my mom if it was okay for me to go out for a little while. Of course, she asked, “Where are you going? Who all is going? And when will you be coming back?” I readily responded to all of her queries. I was always an obedient kid. I kept the lines of communication open with my mother so that she would trust me always. To my delight, she believed me, and granted me permission to go out.
I ran out the house as soon as I heard the horn honking outside. Upon entering the car, I greeted everyone enthusiastically and inquired about the plans. The driver turned around and said, “We’re just looking for an adventure.” Then she started driving. We had the music loud and the windows down. It was a lovely night! We pulled to a small café, it was not too far from my house, and we went inside.
Once in the café, one of my friends pulled a bottle of vodka from her purse. I was immediately alarmed! All of us were underage, and we were in a public place. I refused to have anything to do with the liquor. They were sneaking vodka in the sodas that they ordered. I sat there just feeling very uncomfortable. In that moment, they all picked on me and made fun of me. They were calling me “lame” and a “mama’s baby”. I took the insults with a smile and sat there with them for two hours.
When it was time to leave, I did not get the in the car. Even the driver had been drinking. They completely humiliated me in the parking lot. I was furious by that time. There was not much bargaining on their end, they offered me a ride twice, and then left. I called my mom to come pick me up from the café. My feelings were hurt because I thought they would not want to hang out with me anymore.
The house phone rang at almost three in the morning. I just heard my mother gasp. I was frozen in my bed. Ten minutes later, she came in my room and said, “Your friends were in a bad accident. The car flipped over when it hit a guardrail. But they’re expected to survive.” I was speechless. It scared me, but at the same time, I was glad that I listened to my first mind. My friends were all fined for underage drinking, and had to do community service.
Now, I still have a clean record. We are all still close friends. But I still do not drink and drive. I also do not get in the car with someone that has been drinking. All I had to do was be a teenager and conform with my friends, and I would have ended up in the same situation as them. I am glad that I listened to that little voice in my head. It potentially saved my life.
