Internship Report
Executive Summary:
This report is designed to analyze the events that were in progress during the internship program. The internship has been undertaken in the Office of Global Education (OGE) at the university. Ideally, the office has the objective of running databases and system migration within the University. The university plans to undergo a transformation in the form of the way the data is handled. As an intern, this is the best platform to gain experience. The office deals with essential use of a common sport program and the Drupel program. Ideally, the Common spot program aims at enabling the university to convert and migrate from the analogue website system to the new one. On the other side, the Drupel is a program that is currently under use by the department to create or design new pages on which the information will be migrated. The two programs are the most essential tools that are useful in the migration process of the university’s website, as well as, making necessary changes on the website.
Introduction/Background:
The internship took an approximate time of one month. That is; from 12th May to 5th June. I am a well trained in digital sciences including programming and computer technology. The office that I took my attachment was oriented to programming that is my area of specialization. Particularly, the university is set to use different programs by which it would migrate from an old website to a new website. The two programs are Drupel and Common Spot. Ideally, before I worked on the internship oriented activities, it is important to note that I had to undergo some training on the two programs. Migration to the new programs and website is deemed to enable the university to have reliable databases which are speedy, simple to access and comprehensive.
The major aim of the Office of Global Education (OGE) at the university is to ensure that the data is transferred from the analogue database to the modern database. In addition, the intention of engaging in an internship is to enhance and develop the skills acquired in my academic training. As mentioned before, I have had ample training in the programming and computer technology studies. There are very many areas within which the office is engaged in doing. However, the most important issues that are being attended to and are essential to my internship training include the web programming. Ideally, the databases that were worked on in the system will also incorporate internationally interactive system which will increase the interaction and partnership between the universities. These systems are essential in creating a better framework and basis of training for the internship program.
Working environment
There were very many roles that were allocated to me. They included working with different people from different sections of the office. However, it is my pleasure to state that it was the most appraising place to work. First, the people who work within the office department are very skilled. Most are specialized in computer related operations as well as basic office work. First, my skill and knowledge on the creation and designing of programs as well as database pages has enhanced my great time within the organization. The working environment has been very helpful.
The good interpersonal relationship between the managers and working staff has proved to be very effective in making my internship a success. In general terms, the people the office were very friendly and supportive. Particularly, the people were always ready to answer questions regarding the running of the programs and databases hosted in the institution. The database is essential enabling a combined communication process within and together with other universities. They are also respectful. They take the responsibility of complementing me and fellow interns whenever we generated suitable and realistic ideas.
Additionally, the office heads have always given room for thoughts and ideas from both the staff and interns. The success of developing a strong and effective program is based on the created room for dialogue and suggestions.
Details of Work Accomplished/Project Results
There were numerous activities in which I intended to engage in through participating in the internship program. Similarly, the same activities are well outlined within the office organizational structure. I was engaged in office work and programming activities. The activities were alternated irregularly within the period that the internship took. One of the responsibilities delegated to me included the creation of new database pages. The pages were designated to serve the International partnership division. Ideally, I created about 20 pages. The pages were categorized into applications, online forms, staff profiles, student partners’ profiles, contact information pages, the list of university partners and the update newsletter for the international partnerships. After creating the pages, I played a part in linking the pages and designing them to the best of purpose. Other pages categories that I engaged in included the contact OGE pages. Working on real date enabled me to create reports and new records from the information. My SQL skills were very essential in my internship program.
Lessons learned and Recommendations for future efforts
My skills were brightened. In addition, I learned the importance of teamwork in developing websites and technologically related programs. Essentially, I was able practically to design database pages and reports for a moving program. In addition, I learned the basics of using the Common Sport Program and the Drupel program. I learned that the basic knowledge that I had acquired in class had become very effective in my future career since it was applicable. Within the program, I learned that websites have different features that enable them to function. This is the reason the University was ready to migrate to a stronger system.
Recommendations
I would wish to recommend the university office of global educations continually to embrace a stronger system that will speed up the process. After my professional analysis of the website developed by the institution, it can only support the present data. The future increase of data volume may cause the system to slow down or crash. Therefore, continuous development of the system is essential.
