Pro-Gun Control
Gun control is regulation of the use of the guns in the state. It’s controlling how people access the guns for their use and who can actually possess the gun. Cases of misuse of guns have been on the rise and it’s due to that regulations have to be put in place in order to control such unnecessary death toll. Private Citizens poses a high risk and it’s for the same reason that the guns regulations should highly be adhered.
Guns are not safe if not kept or regulated well. Many cases have been reported surrounding the misuse of the guns which in most cases results in death. Children are high casualties, since they play with the guns, and accidentally release the bullets as a result of carelessness or being unskilled. This is a sad issue especially where we lose innocent children or people due to lack of intention to kill as a result of non-guided regulations surrounding the possession and use of guns. With gun control, it is illegal for a child to have a gun or use a gun. The parents also on their end need to be extra careful on how and where they keep their guns. Parents who keeps their loaded guns in a place where children can easily find, commits a crime as well. Shooting another person for whatever reasons should be illegal as a way of controlling guns. Purchasing a gun on behalf of another user who by law prohibited having one or using it is illegal (Cozic, 1992).
Criminals have been legally obtaining the guns for good reasons but they end up using them commit crimes. Background check should always be done to ensure that people who end up acquiring guns have an upright record of straight forward personalities hence no ill motives in possession of the gun. This has to be mandatory to ensure that criminals do not get away with it yet they live with us.
Gun registration is a must before having the gun. Currently, the registration laws are not enough to administer on how people use them. In order to prevent and assist in providing a solution to crime offences, registration has to be done in a serialized manner besides characterization so that it’s easy to tell the person who uses such guns. It will be easy to trace the person registered with the gun; hence, the criminals only are the people we should be worried of under such instances. With such a policy, people will use their guns appropriately; the only people who will be vulnerable are the criminals.
Civilians with semi-automatic guns are definitely criminals. They have no reason possessing such weapons since they should only be in the hands of the military personnel. It’s more than obvious a semi-automatic gun cannot be used by civilians for self-defense or used for sporting activities. Guns generally should not be easy to access since this reason alone will make children access them and hence misuse will occur (Neill, 2000).
Security in a nation cannot be enhanced by arming the citizens. This will enhance insecurity instead, hence in order to promote security, security agents alone should be in possession of guns since they do have regulations and guidance on how to use them. Democracy should not be dragged to issues surrounding gun control. Most people, especially those in civil societies would want to have stage protests on use of the guns by private citizens. Democracy is way too expensive to be mingled with guns privatization. Adequate legislation is the only ultimate approach to curb insecurities, and promote democracy. Promotion of democracy as well is by informing citizens on how to use them or on how to report cases of misuse of guns. Armed citizens have in the decades been reflected to be highly prone to committing crimes. Besides, high percentage of people who commits homicide is private citizens, who are licensed to own a gun. These people need to be educated and even tested on how they relate to the guns. People who get mad may just end up killing themselves with their own guns which is licensed to them for their own self-protection. This as a matter of fact beats the logic as to why people have to be licensed yet they cannot control their emotions when they are disturbed. Women who get mad at their husbands, being weak, can just use their guns to kill or even injure (Henderson, 2000).
Use of guns by private people needs to be of great concerns and should be allocated with a lot of care. Training them and informing them on how to react to various threats is important. People need not die unnecessarily at the same time; any self-protection use of the gun should be heavily guided. In most cases, showing the gun to the said assailant would make them scare away hence, no firing. This accounts for 99% of such cases with only 1% having fired the bullet.
People who are unskilled, those who have little information on how to use the guns should be restricted on access to guns. Any loophole that exists in the use of guns or licensing of the guns needs to be deeply checked and plugged. There should be fewer accusations on police or security agents on how they protect citizens. People are pointing fingers at them that they do not protect them but instead, they just do an investigation on how a shooting/crime occurred. The security agents need to be heavily equipped with materials and guns if need be in pursuit of security in the country (Fisanick, 2010).
The purchase of the guns needs to be done only through a licensed government agency. Entry of guns as well to a state should be done by one agency through which the government has direct control over for its use as well as those for private citizens. Personalities who misuse the gun control regulations need to be arraign in court and even be punished for such misconduct.
The guns do not harm, people who possess them are the key operators hence most regulations should be directed to the users (Valdez, 2003).
All these regulations are worth the time and life of innocent people, who would otherwise, have been dependable citizens or personalities in their own capacities. Gun control is important to curb rise in deaths. Guns have led to increased deaths not as a result of many other reasons but due to gun use, which is on the increase. People use the guns for self-defense, on the other hand, homicides cases due to gun use will reduce if people are guided accordingly by adequate principles. People should be given a chance to protect themselves as police forces in different parts of the world cannot fully protect the citizens. They only investigate and find a solution to existing crimes.
