Discussion 1 - Question 1
Hello Vida
It is apparent that critical and frequent assessment is a mandatory and important undertaking in acute care in-patient psychiatry. Examining the patient and his/her situation is essential to selection the best practical strategy for addressing the presented condition. Nurses tasked with this role should employ high levels of professionalism and apply flexible and customized strategies that respond to the specific situation presented by each patient (Adam, & Osborne, 2009). Having noted that system’s checklist is not conducted routinely at your center, it is clear that you might be failing to keep a good track on your patients’ background. I recommend you to ensure that your center is conducting systems’ checklist routinely to improve your performance.

I concur that assessment process is a routine practice in a cardiac testing area. I am encouraged to learn that you understand the significance of assessment procedures in a diagnosis. Assessment processes offer the healthcare provider an opportunity of establishing patient’s history and other relevant information that aid effective diagnosis and treatment. It is motivating to note that you have already installed regular systems’ checklist at your workplace. This is essential in standardizing your diagnosis and treatment procedures, which results to improved quality (Bongard, Sue, & Vintch, 2008).
Bongard, F. S., Sue, D. Y., & Vintch, J. R. E. (2008). Current diagnosis & treatment: Critical care. New York: McGraw-Hill Medical. Hello Beverly
First, it is important to acknowledge that assessment processes are essential at med/psych facility where you work. I commend your habit of starting your diagnosis procedures with assessments. This equips you with the vital background information about the patient, thus increasing your chances of conducting a correct diagnosis (Hersen, & Sturmey, 2013). It is motivating to learn that you are aware that critical thinking is central to providing quality services in nursing. Healthcare providers are often faced by challenging and unique situations that require one to employ high levels of creativity. I recommend you to make assessment a routine practice and have systems’ checklists to improve and standardize your services.

Discussion 1 - Question 2
Hey Clyde
It is recommendable that you have learned and acknowledged that confidence is a vital trait for the nurses. Nurses face dilemma in solving complicated situations presented by patients—bold decisions are often needed to solve such situations (Jackson, Ignatavicius, & Case, 2010). As noted, it is apparent that knowledge and experience are essential components of intuition. I support your argument that connecting with the patient is a vital aspect related to intuition, and that nurses can improve their performance by utilizing the benefits which characterize intuition. It is clear that discrimination entails failing to provide a situation that offers individuals an equal opportunity which results to disparities in provision and access of services.

Hello Mary
First, it is indisputable that critical thinking is essential for any nursing student. Nurses should have the quest of embracing any opportunity or practice that can improve their critical thinking skills. It is encouraging to learn that the experience offered you a chance of improving your critical thinking skills. As observed, your procedures were discriminative—I encourage you to work hard in designing procedures that will foster equality. I support your argument that the intuition assumes a vital role in decision-making process. Nurses must know how to utilize this virtue appropriately to improving their critical thinking skills (Masters, 2014).

Hello, Mary Anne
It is recommendable that through the Critical Thinking Inventory exercise you were able to identify aspects that you can utilize to improve your critical thinking skills. With confidence, nurses can present high levels of professionalism and performance. The virtue standardizes the procedures and decisions assumed by health professionals (Price, & Harrington, 2010). I support your sentiment that nurses should take their time to assess the situation or aspects that might be causing the condition presented by the patient. Furthermore, through understanding the vital role of intuition and utilizing it effectively when making decisions, the nurses can successfully improve their critical thinking skills.
