The development of Information and Communication Technology brought a huge love to social networks, that began to play an extremely important role in every – day life. With every new day over 100 people become a new members of popular websites, such as Facebook, Twitter and Google. Most of the active Internet users have at least one account on various websites, that were created for the purpose of communication with friends and acquaintances.
Social network is a structure, that includes a lot of people, united according to their interests, preferences, etc. Modern Internet provides us with all possible tools that help us to communicate with each other. They are video chats, calls, forums, etc. In a business world, it acts as a new way of communication with the consumers, that helps not only to be in touch with them, but also track preferences of the target audience.
As you can see the main role of the Internet is communication, however nowadays it has become a huge source of different information that sometimes could be very harmful to our state of mind as most of this information are unauthentic and sometimes even violent.
Despite the fact that Internet has brought a lot of advantages to the field of communication, its broad use inevitably has been connected with negative influences on social interaction.
One of the positive sides of the Internet is that it is the largest library in the world. Here you can find different types of academic writing, such as projects, essays, articles, etc. They could be very helpful while studying. Also, all kinds of fresh news and weather forecast could be easily found here. Books, films, music and even different types of products or services could be found and bought through the Internet, which save our time and money.
The benefit from the Internet as the way of communication is evident, as it helps to connect people across the globe. Before the invention of the Internet it was possible only with the help of phone or mail, which limited time and costs. Communication through the Internet allows us to set the connection with not only our relatives, friends, but also with people that we do not know completely. Social networking such as Twitter, Facebook, Google and Emails have set up online communities which are worldwide in scale and they have developed the communication among people that we would not have thought possible in the not too remote past.
As any kind of mass media, Internet could bring benefits as well as drawbacks to humanity. Most of the people see only advantages of the Internet, without thinking about negative consequences.
The first drawback of the Internet is that it makes us lazy, accordingly reduces physical activity. Social networks, such as Twitter, Google or Facebook, made us less active and social. Instead of going out with friends and spending our free time with families, we use these websites. Every day each of us spends a lot of time at these websites, posting photos, chatting, reading news of our friends. In order to find out about their lives, we do not need to go out, call or write a letter anymore. A lot of us remember about our friend’s birthday, just because Facebook sent us the notification. We are happy when someone of our friends @Tweet us, as we think they remember us. Instead of going out to the local shop to buy some food, we prefer do use online services. In order to do the assignment, a lot of us ignore libraries and creative thinking and use Google search. We refuse to think. We know that this social website will provide us with necessary information, ideas from someone else and we will just use it and that is it.
Consequently, it has given a birth to another and more serious disadvantage of the Internet as Internet addiction. The most visible example of this illness is that we become too dependent on Google website. One of the most reason why we become obsessed with it is that Google is the most powerful search engine in the world. One click and any kind of information will be given on the plate. Because of Google addiction, our working memory became shorter, reading and writing abilities poorer than it was earlier. While sending the mail through Google, we do not need to proofread the message as it provides us with online grammar checker that will do this for us. In order to learn a new language, we prefer to use Google Translator, which is not perfect, to tell the truth. Instead of reading, we would rather watch videos online or use audio materials that kill our reading abilities as well. We do not need to rely on this source as all the information provided by this engine is random.
As you can see all these social websites have a strong connection with our lives and cause an inevitable impact on us. It provides both positive as well as negative effects. Personally, I also use these tools, however I try to find a golden mean and use it only with benefits.
