Particular Others
I am influenced by my grandmother who has a strong impact on my personality and thoughts. Both of my parents worked when I was growing up and my grandmother, a widow, was always there to guide me and help bring me up. She catered for my needs as well as my siblings’ and was a positive force in my life. I am resilient and cautious with everything I do because of my grandmother’s guidance in every step I took. She taught me never to trust anyone blindly, explained to me the virtues of loyalty and honesty through stories and tales and told me to believe in my strengths in life. Her teachings always ring in my eyes when I am about to pursue anything important or new, and I owe any of my success to her.
Generalized others
I am influenced by my socioeconomic conditions in life. I am in a good financial condition now but looking back; things were not the same. Coming from an average income family, I was only provided the necessities, and I did not see many luxuries earlier in life. Both my parents worked to provide for us, and they also saved for my college and other miscellaneous expenses. Yet I was taught to remain content with what I had because that would keep me happy. My family and I made the best of whatever resources we had, and that passed our time very well. I am currently employed, and I can pay for whatever I want, but I am happy and satisfied with life because I have learned that it is not money that matters, rather it is people in life that care about you and love you selflessly.
