United States of America have many insurance plans available for its citizens. By 2014, the law requires everybody to have an insurance cover. The Affordable Care Act enables the Americans to get a comprehensive health insurance cover. The available insurance and health plans vary depending on the state. Every state has its own insurance. The government of America has the Medicare health insurance plan for the people aged 65 years and above or people under the age of 65 and has certain disabilities (Green & Rowell, 2013). The Medicare pays for nursing facilities, care in hospitals. It also includes doctor’s coverage and drug descriptions.
The health insurance plans in the states are different. The types of insurance plans include individual health insurance, group health insurance, student health insurance, travel insurance, short-term health insurance and family health insurance (Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, 2010).
The regulation of the health insurance premiums occur at the state level by the Department of Insurance. The affordable Care Act has come with the online market place where everyone can check the eligibility to get the insurance plan depending on the State the person comes from (Tate, 2012). The market place allows people to compare the insurance plans. This makes it possible in decision making depending on the cost. Buying the insurance from the market place has some benefits because of the availability of financial aids and a tax credit, sent to the insurance company person choses. This lowers the monthly premium. The eligibility to get the health insurance plan depends on the amount of money one makes each year and the size of the family a person has (Murdock, 2012). If a person has Medicaid, that person
Children Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is an insurance plan that also exists in every State (eHealth Insurance, 2013). CHIP is low-cost health coverage covers children under the age of 19. Each state decide the benefits that CHIP provides to the children but all the states cover the immunizations, regular checkups, dental care, x-ray services and hospital care. Medicaid is another insurance plan that provides affordable health coverage. Medicaid is available in every state. It covers the elderly, people with disabilities, children, pregnant women and families.
