This is a transcript of an interview with the church pastor who is making an effort to ascertain if Gloria is the right candidate with the right mental approach to work with the mute members of the community. As they are differently abled the pastor believes that they are closer to God, which he has bestowed them with different abilities to be able to make a difference in a dramatically different way and that's us – the so called normal people are actually at a disadvantage. The question that pastor seeks to answer is if Gloria has the commitment to these God’s loved children.
Pastor: Good morning, Gloria; Praise the Lord! How are you this morning! Let me spend the next 15 minutes trying to understand why you would want to be part of the team that works with our differently abled brethren in the church. What drives you to do it?
Gloria: Praise the Lord! Good morning brother! Let me first thank you for considering me for this position. I have had close experiences with God and had a vision that directed me to be of service to these differently abled brethren in the church. I look at is as a divine direction that makes me a complete individual. I have been a fairly successful professional outside of the church and have been devoting my time whenever I possibly could to the service of mankind and have been actively involved in a variety of volunteering activities.
I have learnt the sign language, even before this vision happened to me. The purpose was to understand the intense emotions that these differently abled brothers and sisters go through. I have seen them indulge in animated conversations, I have seen them laugh, smile and even witnessed a twinkle in their eyes. They seem to be so full of life and love. They also witness the complete spectrum of emotions that we go through and they seem to be living their lives more completely than what we do with so-called complete faculties. They are totally unaware of their inability, which leads to the question if they are really differently abled. I want to be a part of that world and contribute to their world. I want to communicate their reality to our world and make our understanding of their world complete. I want to be of assistance to them and serve them, while being a servant – in the true sense of serving them in the name of the Lord.
Pastor: That is a very interesting perspective Gloria! I am impressed with it. I must thank you for taking such a beautiful view of their world and your desire to further enhance it. I am sure with you will tread the God’s path and be of great service to them and the church. While having said that, please give me an estimate of the time that you can spend with them on a weekly basis as well as other qualities in you that would make it an excellent fit for this position.
Gloria: Thank you brother for the kind words. I am indeed thrilled that you find me a right candidate.
I am working about 25 hours a week brother. This comfortably allows me to spend an equal amount of time with our brethren. Considering the fact that I live and work very close to the church it allows me to spend this kind of a time. I have been a very patient individual all my life and have seen it as a virtue. I have the inclination to learn and learn constantly. I have been very good at understanding emotions of people and am very good at understanding body language. I can read things that are not said. And in the work with our brethren, it is a vital thing as it forms an important part of their communication. I am a good teacher and I can use this skill to make a difference to their lives by teaching them academics as well as playing piano. I hope all this makes me absolutely the right candidate for this position brother. Praise the Lord Brother and thank for giving me this opportunity to be of service to the church and the community.
Pastor: Praise the Lord sister Gloria! Allow me some time to revert on my final decision and I will also be seeking the Lord’s guidance while I make this decision.
