Abstinence
Abstinence
Sex or Sexual Intercourse is the essential process of the human civilization that has let the world reach the quality of life it has now. Of course, without sex humans can’t even have offspring to continue their civilization. It is also amusing that our Creator has perfectly matched the timing for each human to mate. It is from the time when humans reach adolescence. The human sex organ development happens at this time. The female starts to have a mature egg as well as the menstrual cycle. For the male the process of exploring their gonads is also proactive. Needlessly to say, male teens at that age do love to masturbate. However, there are still some restrictions for them before having sexual intercourse between opposite sex.
Adolescence has been one of the most exciting stages of human development. The trigger of having sexual desires as well as development of the physique happens within this era. Most of us don’t mind the initial result of sex exploration. It is just for the satisfaction of the flesh. The openness of a human civilization is a bit too complex when it comes to sex. Moreover, it varies from every part of the world
It is part of the human civilization of having sex, but it is customized between cultures. But as time goes by, there is a universal standard code on when would be the best time to have sex. And that is when a male and a female engage into a bond called marriage. Marriage has been established from the earliest history known to humans. As for the modern days, marriage has been interconnected with faith. Christianity and Islam practice marriage as one of the pillars of their faith.
Meanwhile, it is also imminent that sex before marriage is very rampant nowadays. What we are going to talk about with this paper is that how abstinence can give a positive impact to each stage of human life. This will include the teenage years, the adult years and as well as the marriage state.
Abstinence has been referred to as the restraining of oneself from having sex with the opposite or even the same sex. Scientific journals have given many positive effects of abstinence to each individual that engage in sex. Avoidance of Sexually Transmitted Diseases is the number one positive effect of abstinence. But relating it to the teenage life is a little bit different.
The teenage days are considered wild and adventurous. As the human body develops, the sexual hormones also do some alteration on our urges. Higher levels of testosterone and estrogen will promote sexual desires for both male and female. Evidently, this human stage of life is the most vulnerable when it comes to sex. However, the introduction of abstinence to teenagers has also been widely practiced.
Abstinence for Teens has accumulated a lot of research too. According to Rector and Johnson (2005), the positive effects of teenagers that abstain from sex include a high academic rating, lower suicide rates, STD avoidance, long-lasting marriage and mental stability. Additionally, teenagers can avoid by having a responsibility with having a child out of wedlock as well as experiencing this on a poverty level. It is usual for most teenage parents to seek assistance from their relatives. Evidently teenage parents couldn’t have a proper job resulting in an unstable income and subsequently insufficient funds to raise a kid.
There are also written reports about teenagers having sex within their peers to have a serious threat to their health. This can also be related to long-term implications. Some aspect of it may relate to impotency. The increase of sexual activity during these years may also result to early death most especially if the individual has incurred AIDS. Even though there are condoms as well as other preventive sexual intercourse commodities, it is not a guarantee that one could not get AIDS.
Additionally, educational abstinence has been promoted in most high schools in America. This has been an ongoing effort of the government along with the participation of parents. Moreover, there are also some different extremities to the teaching of abstinence. Some parents promote abstinence until their child graduates from high school. On the other hand, conservative parents would encourage their children to abstain from sex not until they get married. Recently, there has been a conducted research to amplify the positive effect of abstinence. There are about 22 studies conducted in this field of education. About 17 of them reported a positive note to the research academy. This also includes the positive impact of being a virgin before marriage. Abstinence may sound a little bit awkward for sexually active people, but actually it has positive impacts (Kim &Rector, 2010).
Moving forward the discussion of the abstinence effect to adulthood is also an interesting field. One could say that what applies to teens could also be applied to adulthood. Some aspects of it may, but it is a little bit on the next level. Abstinence for Adults can be attributed to the mental and physical health of the individual. An adult can focus more on his or her career if he refrains from having sexual affairs. It is evident nowadays that one night stand is quite popular. Being more focus on such activities can take out the focus of building up a career as well as hinders personal growth.
This will also help the person to give respect for her not to engage sex casually. And for women, it is more dignified that she has kept her virginity for a long time. With regards to career growth, the individual can for sure establish one. This is because abstinence can help the individual to focus on one thing, rather than entertaining a sexual partner that could even compromise those priorities.
Even the movie entitled Fifty Shades of Grey has taken the world by storm. This just means that people are interested on having sex casually. But doing it could give an adverse effect to your mental health. It is evident in the novel that the main protagonist Anastasia Steel has been addicted to his sexual lover Christian Grey. In the movie, Anastasia has been sexually addicted to Christian Gray. The woman couldn’t even recognize why she is working for him. It only proves that your mental health could be struck with having sex without proper readiness. Most importantly Anastasia was expecting a return of love. That was another emotional effect to her. The expectation was reciprocated on the end of the series, but it couldn’t be true for all situations (IMDb, 2015). Therefore, negating all of these through abstinence is the best method to do.
Adults can also benefit from avoiding STDs. Aside from that the adult can also develop an ability to withstand sexual urges in the near future. This is basically important for adults that are going to marry, they are practicing loyalty to their soon to be partner. According to faith and religion practices being a virgin before marriage is a sacred gift to your other half. It is also a given praise to the creator based on Christianity. Most of the adults are practicing their beliefs that are in line with their faith (Thompson, 2009). Lastly, the positive effect of abstinence to marriage is the more relatable for most conservative people.
Abstinence for Marriage has been the main topic for abstinence researcher. As far as most people know, having a sound mind and sound body can promote good balanced emotional health. Most people from the sector of religion do agree that marriage is needed before sex. But some people are quite indecisive about it. There are some concerns whether sexual compatibility will affect a marriage. Looking into some research done with teenagers that were given abstinence education after the wedding would be a great help in expediting more the positive effects of abstinence to this timeline (Maher, 2003).
With reference to the Physicians Resource Council, the drop in teenager conception rates amid the 1990s was expected not to expand the preventative use among high school students, but rather to sexual abstinence. This corresponds with the reduction in sexual action among unwed youngsters. In 1988, 51 percent of unwed young ladies between the ages of 15 and 19 had occupied with sex contrasted with 49 percent 1995. This particular case likewise happened among unwed young men, declining from 60 percent to 55 percent somewhere around 1988 and 1995. With the scientific studies done for the education of abstinence has greatly impacted the mindset of the youths. They are now more open to the possibilities that the positive effect of having sex after marriage can give more satisfaction for both individuals (Maher, 2003).
On the aspect of spirituality, individuals who have chosen to be pure before marriage can be more sexually adventurous. This is particularly called chastity. It means that a couple that has no experience in having sex can enjoy more their partner’s sexual drive. There is a bigger room for discovering each other’s sexuality. Moreover, these couples would be having a stable relationship rather than those who have sex before marriage ( Bakker & Coxx, n.d).
This is mainly because an individual can avoid psychological damage from having sex without commitment. This is particularly true for most women. When women engage into sexual intercourse, the body, usually produces a hormone called oxytocin. This hormone would later on giving a bond to both individual having sexual intercourse. That is why it is sometimes called the love drug. With this particular reason having sex without a commitment can impose a great danger to the mental and emotional health of an individual (Salamon, 2010).
Abstinence gives a lot of positive effects to the over-all health of an individual. According to the discussion of this paper, it can actually be divided into three types. This would be the physical, mental and emotional aspect of human life. Summarizing every positive effect for every stage would correlate to these three aspects. The physical aspect would mainly attribute to the avoidance of STDs and other diseases that are caused by casual sex. The emotional and mental aspect would be attributed to the effects of abstinence to the spiritual and psychological needs of a person.
In conclusion, abstinence is highly advantageous depending on the state of a person. Having sex at an early age would be correlated with more psychological damage, but, it can still be negated through therapies. However, promoting abstinence within these years could give a protection for this type of damage. Liberated individuals are those who engage in casual sex most of the time, but, it doesn’t always mean that they can’t cope up with the negative effects of abstinence. But as per this paper, there is a high chance that the quality of life would be compromised if an individual has engaged in sexual intercourse at an early age. It is just a matter of readiness. The readiness of the individual to cater such responsibility would be very essential. Abstinence indeed has a lot of effects and taking a look at it stage by stage is an interesting insight.
