The firing of three short-range missiles into the Japan sea water by the North Korean government has been a tension causing action. This action by North Korea can be due to different reasons. North Korea says that the act is a test of its own weapons. However, other states believe that this is not the case and the country is trying to pass across a message. The South Korean state claims that the action is a threatening one to its security as South Korea is flexing its muscles on what powers it has. This claim has received backing from the Unites States if America and they believe that the action is more than just a testing of their weapon (Tan, 2013, p.67).
North Korea fired these there missiles a few days after the launching of an annual joint military act between the United States and the South Korea. This joint was strongly opposed by the North Korean government. As a result, there was a sparked tension that was caused between the United States and South Korea against North Korea (Bechtol & Palgrave 2014, p.47).
The South Korean government has heightened its security following this action by North Korea and had taken all measures to deal with any form of war that might arise from the tension. For instance, in partnership with the government of the United States, they have conducted security drills in places which are more prone to attacks (In Frank, 2013, p.78).
There are several things that may result if the North Korean Government decides to launch the fourth missile in the name of testing their weapons. First, there might start a war where the North Korean government will be attacked by the South Korean troops and those from the United States, as well. A war will result to the deaths of a large number of innocent civilians as these will be the use of lethal missiles from both the parties. In addition, it will lead to deterioration in the economies of several countries related to the participant countries of the war. Different countries will also polarize and takes sides in the war.
Another possible result is for the government of North Korea to be summoned to a negotiation table, by the United Nations, and be given conditions to which they will be required to comply. Failure to comply will have some consequences. For instance, they might get international sanctions and barred from participating in international activities if they remain a threat to the security of other nations. They also risk being attacked by the United Nations troops if they continue being a threat to the security of other people.
The government of U.S., through its embassy of South Korea, will take ensure the safety of its citizen in both the North and South Korea. This can be done by summoning all it citizens and shipping them out of these countries. The tension created will be a recipe for disaster and to take care of its people; the government of United States will need to ship its people out of these danger zones. Both the United States and the South Korean governments will also decide to cut economic activities with the North Korean government.
