Floresiensis, Denisovans, Neanderthals, and modern Homo sapiens are the four types of hominins. However, modern Homo sapiens are the only species left. There are many contributing factors that lead to the extinction of the three other species 20,000 years ago however I believe the most important aspect that lead to Homo sapiens survival over the others to be diet.
There are slight diet differences between the species that I believe correlate to survival. I think that diet plays a role in the survival of the fittest idea as well. Homo sapiens were the fittest species and survived because of their diet.
Neanderthals are believed to have had a more terrestrial herbivore diet, resembling that of a deer (The Fossil Record). Whereas, modern Homo sapiens showed a more carnivorous component to their diet than Neanderthals (The Fossil Record). Furthermore, it is believe that modern Homo sapiens also consumed a wider variety of food, including using aquatic resources in their diet and that in turn gave them a more rounded diet.
Floresiensis are known for their small body build and small cranial capacity. Many scientists believe to directly correlate to the limited food resources on the island of Flore. The island limited the food resources, which in turn limited the diet, which in turn caused the smaller build (dwarfism) (Wikipedia).
With the limited knowledge on Denisovan it is hard to make assertions towards their extinction, let alone correlate that to diet. It has been said that the Denisovan are a sister group of the Neanderthals (Wikipedia). With that being said we can assume the Denisovan might have a similar diet to that of the Neanderthals.
