The Race for the Double Helix (1987)
Synopsis; This is yet another star from Jim Watson (Jeff Goldblum) who makes a joint force with some of his English counterparts, Francis Crick (Tim Pigott-Smith) in their determination to unlocking the double-helix structure of the DNA.
Review
James Watson
James Watson is depicted as a determined character in the movie. In the first instance, he is on a move for an Italian conference. Joined is by Maurice Wilkins they are determined to seek or better techniques on X-ray and Crystallography that are of great development only in England. He also comes out as a resolute individual, especially after his refusal to join Wilkins in the research study.
Linus Pauling
An outstanding character that keeps a low profile of himself. As the attentions and thoughts of the viewer, one may think that Linus won the race but it is the contrary of what had really happened. The two hard-working pair, Wilkins and Crick won the race of the double-helix discovery. It is after this struggle to collectively work towards attaining the common goal that Watson and Crick get surprised to hear that an American Chemist Linus Pauling was already on the verge of finding a solution to the study.
Francis Crick
Francis Crick is a determined individual. With all the determination and efforts, Watson and Crick win the race after they manage to discover that the DNA had a “double helix “shape. At the Cambridge University, Watson agrees to join hands with the physicist Francis Crick because of his determination.
Maurice Wilkins
He is a team player, who is able to convince James Watson to join his crew. They join hands with Watson to seek for better techniques on X-ray and Crystallography that are of great development only in England. Politics is depicted to have played a very significant role in driving Wilkins and Crick for a science discovery.
Rosalind Franklin
This character is depicted as a knowledgeable individual in the movie. Some of the crucial steps in the attempt to understand the DNA’s helix, a greater laboratory work is depicted to be happening not in the Cambridge College but King’s College, controlled by an expertise Rosalind Franklin (1920-1958).
