It is apparent that, in the 21st century, diversity with respect to workforce has become one of the most essential concerns in every business. Therefore, every business is looking forward to getting employees who are diverse since diversity in business means a diverse economy that is strong. If a business wants to leap economic benefits it, therefore, requires that it has all-inclusive and diverse workforce. It is believed that businesses that manage to employ or recruit from a workforce that is diverse stand a better position in that they are able to tap the best in terms of bright talents, which help them, have a competitive edge in the economy that is competitively increasing by the day.
The rationale of this paper is to describe how the nature of the workforce is today. In addition to that, the paper shall critically evaluate how the nature of the workforce today affect the manner in which different organisation are managed. In the paper, literature review about today’s workforce shall be reviewed as well as analyse the current state of the industry (Hankin, pg 150). . The paper shall also assess different promotional material as it tries to describe and analyse the different aspect with respect to today’s workforce.
In the world of business today, it is clear that a diverse workforce is inevitable if the business is to keep up with the ever growing competition. As a result, the human resources personnel in different organisation ensure that the concept of a workforce that is diverse is observed and implemented during the recruitment process.
A close review of various existing literatures, it is evident that a diverse workforce is the future of organisations due to the benefit that comes with them. Regarding some of the works of art by different authors interested to know the nature of the workforce currently and to assess the impact of the workforce about the management of organisations, various benefit have been identified. It is clear that when people who have different backgrounds, experiences as well as skills, businesses stand a position to come up with a type of solutions that are not only innovative but also creative.
This goes a long way in enabling business to handle the problems it goes through in the most appropriate manner such that they have a competitive edge in the first growing world of business. Literature reviewed has it all the businesses in the current day that engage in diversification of their workforce realise increasing productivity in the operations of the business (Hankin, pg 120). In addition to that, it is clear that job performance also becomes impressive and the workforce is comfortable with their jobs.
Research conducted about the workforce in the current day and the implications that the workforce has on the management shows that a diverse workforce in the economy drive economic growth much faster, than to workforce that are skewed toward one direction. The reason as to why economic growth makes positive gains in a diverse workforce is because all people either from minority communities or other marginalised groups in the economy are given a chance to contribute in one way or another in building an economy that will last for long.
In the United States, it is without doubt that the workforce is becoming diverse as well as in other places in the world. The current literature reviewed has shown that statistics about the number of people of colour in the workforce is increasing day by day. Statistics obtained from well conducted research compliment the literature showing that at the moment 36% of the workforce in the United States is coloured people (Rosner, pg 65).
The non-Hispanic forms 64% of the workforce, the whites form 16%, African American form a 12% of the workforce and the Asian communities form 5%. Statistics has it that 3% of the workforce in America do not identify with ethnic or racial categories in the United States. It is worth noting that in America, all sorts of people have been given a chance to give their contribution in economy building through the workforce. This is evidence by the fact that people with disabilities can be found in the workforce as well as gay and transgender people who have been recognised and make their contribution in the workforce.
A close examination of the laws of the land, it is clear that workforce diversity have become a legal requirement. It is therefore evident that business organisations as well as other companies are under a legal obligation to ensure that in their employment practises they are non-discriminatory. Any company or organisation on the land that defies the obligation of upholding affirmative action and equal employment opportunity face heavy fines and loses fridge benefits from the government.
Impact on management
The management of organization has taken the diversity in workforce to their advantage in their management obligation (Karoly, pg 108). About literature reviewed, the management of different business have taken diversity in the workforce as a marketing strategy. To become powerful organisation in the world economy today, the managers have realised that it is of great importance for the organisation to be represented by people from all the walks of life. This is with respect to their gender orientation, race colour, ages, and abilities.
Marketing strategy
Diversity in the work place have helped marketing manager to make critical decision where they ensure their product have been designed in a manner that all people are appealed by them. To achieve this, literature has shown that the marketing managers are hiring the service of people who represents all the different groups to help them in making decision hence ensuring that they make more sales (Hankin, pg 200).
These people give their insight and knowledge about all factors affecting them and as such the management ensures that their needs are well catered for. This has enabled companies and organisation to become stronger by the day as well as compete strongly in the world of business.
Communication strategy
Research conducted BOUT communication strategy in organisations has shown that the management of different business have changed their strategies. It is worth noting that organisations are adopting a diverse workforce about their vendors, customers as well as their partners (Karoly, pg 78). The management has adopted diversification since they realised that retaining a homogenous workforce is becoming increasingly out of date and ineffective. To ensure they remain competitive, companies and organisations have diversified their workforce by enhancing their communication channels by diversifying them.
Capacity building strategy
According to research conducted with respect to capacity building in organisation, it is evident that companies that prosper are those that are able adapt to new situation rapidly, solve problems effectively, identifies new opportunities in the market and immediately capitalise on them (Rosner, pg 165). As such the capacity of the organisations can be measured by evaluating the talent they have, experience insight, knowledge and creativity in the workforce.
Different scholars are of the opinion that organisation that conform to status quo in their recruitment will be disadvantaged. Therefore, diversity in the workforce has been advocated for and can be achieved if only companies as well as organisations hire employees who are of different backgrounds. Companies should employ people from all diversities believing that they will change the manner in which business is carried out in the organisation.
Conclusion
There are different reasons that motivate organisation as well as companies to acknowledge diversity in their workforce. It is with on doubt about the different literatures reviewed as well as with respect to existing literatures that organisation and companies that acknowledge diversity in their workforce enjoys more benefits. In addition to that, it is clear that diversity in the workforce will enable companies and organisation has a competitive advantage in the increasingly competitive world of business.
The paper has shown the current position of the workforce today where a clear picture of the situation has been shown. In addition to that, a critical examination and analysis of the different ways workforce today influences management has been done in the paper to details where diversified workforce is seen to play a great and significant role. In the paper it is clear that for a business to remain competitive, diversity in the workforce is of paramount importance.
